I play on ps4 btw
Now, to the most effective method: perks.
Sloppy Butcher: makes injured survivors bleed like crazy, the blood trail is easier to follow. Pairs well with Bloodhound.
Bloodhound: makes blood trails shine very visibly and makes blood trails last longer. Pairs well with Sloppy Butcher.
Shadowborn: Increases field of view and brightness. Only drawback is, you're more vulnerable to flashlights (they blind faster, you get blinded for longer). Use with caution.
Monitor & Abuse: this does the same thing as Shadowborn, without the drawback of being increasingly vulnerable to flashlights. However, the increased field of view is only active outside of chases, meaning that finding a survivor who has disappeared will be when your field of view increases. In addition, when not in a chase, your terror radius is reduced by 8 meters, making it easier to sneak up on survivors (it also pairs very well with A Nurse's Calling, the Hag, the Nurse, and the Huntress). And while in a chase, your terror radius is increased by 8 meters. So, the moment a chase ends, your terror radius jumps down by 16 meters, giving survivors a false impression that they've escaped from you. Beware when using this perk, you may begin to feel nauseated by the constant field of view changes.
A Nurse's Calling: makes a killer able to see survivors healing within 28 meters through walls, highlighted as an aura. The normal terror radius is 32 meters (Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Doctor, Evil Within t3 Myers), reduced killer terror radius is 28 meters (Hag, Nurse), farther reduced is 20 meters (Huntress, Evil Within t2 Myers), and the smallest terror radius is 8 meters (Evil Within t1 Myers). The Huntress' humming range is 40 meters and directional, to boot. That's a lot of range values, but analyse it and you'll see which killers you'll be able to see them healing with, before they know you're coming in the first place. Pair this with Monitor & Abuse, and you have even more options. This is great for chases where survivors break off and immediately start self-healing.
Spies from the Shadows: when survivors trigger crows within 36 metres from you, there's a 75% chance you get a direct notification where they are as an explosion bubble. Good to keep track of survivors in chases with.
Whispers: it's just an all-around great detection perk. The perk icon lights up whenever a live survivor is within 32 metres of the killer, and stays lit up for as long as they are. You can use this as sonar to find the direction where a survivor ran to, as well as to find survivors in the first place.
Predator: increases the duration that scratch marks stay visible. Given that scratch marks are bugged to hell right now, I wouldn't run this, but it is an option.
Territorial Imperative: shows when someone goes in your basement if you're farther than 32 metres from it. Can be helpful on the rare occasion someone hides in the basement, or when they are basement saving.
Playing on the lowest graphics setting possible reduces fog, increases render range and brightness, and removes foliage. There's nothing but upsides to it.
That's what I've got for ya so far. Hope it helps.
