Would creepypastas require license?
Not commenting on whether or not they should, I was just wondering.

If they put Slenderman or Jeff the Killer in the game, would they have to pay someone, or are those characters public domain?

Edit: Once more, NOT saying they should. It was just a random thought, and I was curious.

Pretty sure they're public domain. They would never do that though

yes needs a license but slender on this game nope jeff its like myers so no

the slenderman as a creepypasta figure is public domain unless the original creator of the image from somethingawful forums wants credits or something, I guess

since there has been already a full-fledged horror game in its own right made about him and there are also countless alt. reality stories, e.g. Marble Hornets, I don't think licensing would be a problem

But the fact that there's already a horrorgame about him might make the Devs not want to add him (him being cliche would most likely not figure into it because Myers is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke on youtube with all those parodies)

If the characters, stories, or settings are copyrighted, than yes. Given that this is rarely the case with creepypasta, the answer is no.

Theoretically, if DBD used creepypasta content, and the person who created said creepypasta objected to it, they could sue the DBD devs... but without legal proof of ownership and no budget to hire lawyers and make aggressive court actions, they would almost certainly lose.

What they would require is the DBD Community dropping their collective IQ a few more points for some Smerglord garbage like creepypasta to become acceptable.
