Any changes/modify of game files CAN cause a ban. So you better dont touch anything, just a advice.
If you've lost them, I'm pretty sure it's A-Ok to bring them back if you find them somehow.
Problem with this is people can keep reloading a full item/inventory save file to have an unlimited stock. I seriously doubt this is ok lol.
If you use a random savegame file, there is a mismatch between these numbers => should trigger a ban
If you use a backup of your own savegame file, no mismatch between the both player-IDs
There is no way you can have a ban if you use your own backup save (do not trust too much SteamCloud : do a regular backup of your DbD profile if you invest a lot of time in this game)
Using someone elses shows up easier due to achievements being granted, I found one yesterday using someone elses save profile, it was easy to see as they had the achievements kill 100 survivors and kill 1000 on the same date and time.
Needless to say they wont be playing anymore on that account.
one of the devs said on his twitter that it is not bannable.
Think his name is something like rick/richard, check his twitter history.
His post should be somewhere in december
