how to use hex totems as killer?
do i have to light them?
do totems have a visual outline if im a killer using a hex?
will one be auto lit at the start of game?

They are lit up automatically at the start of the game.
Random totem gets chosen to be the hex.
No they don't have visual outline.

so only one totem is lit and after that is destroyed the perk is useless?

Nah played killer plenty, just never used a hex before, and i probably wont :P

One totem lights up per hex perk equipped at the beginning of the game. (With the exception of NOED, which lights automagically on a random totem when the gates are powered.) That means up to four totems can be lit in a single game. You can see the aura of totems that are tied to a hex perk from anywhere on the map. (Although the can be small and hard to see from one side to the other.) When a hex totem is destroyed, the perk is deactivated, and has no effects on the match. (With a slight exception to TOTH, because it still shows you how many totems are left and when they are cleansed even when the related hex totem is destroyed.)

You can also get an addon that will notify you when a survivor is messing with a totem.

well with some hex's, like thrill of the hunt, thats already a part of the hex.
