When is it okay to leave your teammates behind?
okay so first off i already made up my mind about this, but i just wanna hear your opinions.
So there was this game when the killer had NOED. I finished like 3 gens and i never got hooked.
my teammates kept dying like flies over and over again and i saved/healed them as much as i could.
the exits were very close to each other, and the killer had no trouble patrolling them, especially with NOED.
Three people left and two of them in dying state close to eachother. borrowed time used up since long.No exit gate open.

so i got tired of my teammates dying over and over again, since i couldn't save them all the time. In my mind, i did the logical thing and left through one of the exits when he was busy hooking them.
Don't get me wrong, i like to save people as much as i can, but trying to do that with NOED is a suicide especially without BT.

Of course there has to be this rank 1 guy who acts like he's from another caste. He just made me laugh because he knew the killer had NOED and he still thought i was terrible for not saving him. ''Oh right i don't talk to people below rank 5'' iam rank 8. if that matters to anyone. But the point is i saved them and healed them several times but they kept dying, and this was the ONLY way for me to get out.

So according to you, when is it okay to leave teammates behind?

Anytime you want too.

I play killer, I do not have NOED, least that I know of. Working on leveling the doctor because I want Monitor and Abuse for Myers. I had a match where we had a guy drop in loading and typically if that happens I don't aim to kill if I can. I will chase, I will hit, I will hook. But I won't stay near the hook and I will let it be known I am ok with them getting the unhook.

So I accidentally killed one because they suicided on the hook. So now I am definitely not gonna kill the other two. Because this was pretty short into the match. So I hooked this Dwight in yellow and left, this Meg came up and unhooked and healed him. I chase them around a bit and I slugged the meg, they finish the generator which is cool and open the gate. I am on the opposite side of the map at this point watching the meg bleed out. I circle back to the open gate to see what this guy is doing. He sees me, Teabags and steps over the line into escape.

I apologized to the Meg after and she said it was np, and that she had tried to crawl to him and he ignored her and did the gate.

In that situation I don't approve of leaving the person behind when you see the killer slug someone and he looks at you and runs off in the opposite direction leaving them 5 feet from you.

I was trough this just like yesterday and i did let them beacuse i didn't have the skill and the perks for it and they were 2 times on the hook so what do they want me to do? So i escaped and they died.

And yeah it is okay to leave them.

I love to save as many people as possible. Who doesn't? The problem is that a lot of survivors are too altrustic. You may get crap for it but you can't always save everyone. The stars aren't always aligned.

You may not see the killer and don't want to risk it. You may not want to save a teammate who dies over and over and you don't want to risk your own safety for a slim chance of them surviving. You may be across the map and won't get to them in time. In the end, you saved who you could. I've gotten a lot of hate for just miscommunication between teammates or a lack of saving because I'm focusing on other aspects (3 people acting stupid with 5 gens up kind of a deal). Saltiness seems to be a common theme in this community and a lot are quick to blame.

TLDR: It is okay to leave your teammates when you feel it's the right thing to do. No one can run through every possible situation and say if it's ok or not.

A little example from the killer perspectiv,

I had a match yesterday where I started really bad, the survivors pretty much rekt me.
In the end I managed to get one guy on the hook and I decided to secure that one kill by close camping.
That's what changed the whole game into a 3 kill game with over 25k points for me.
They swarmed the hook with 3 people and even after one traded place on the hook they kept coming back. I had one already down on the ground when the first victim died on the hook and picked him up to hook him imediatly. And again, the remaining two tried to rescue like crazy.

So in a nutshell...leave them behind and survive or go feed the killer and die.
I would see the logical choice, but some survivors seem to follow a different logic.

Guessing you were in the basement (Hooks disappear after someone dies) or in one of the golden spots where two hooks spawn like side by side (not really but very close)

If you knew NOED was involved, you should make an attempt to go knock out that totem. I saw exactly how you played. You opened the door then you camped the door because you wanted your 5k points.

No basement. I was on the hook and another survivor was downed about 20 meters away from me.

No basement and not really a golden spot. Just Agitation. I downed them during the rescue attempt and left them on the ground until the first one died and carried them to the next hook.
Three times the same stupid rescue attempt.

I agree, pulling something like that is just pure douchiness.
that was obviously very different from my situation. Screw that guy.

hmm i knew after i got hit, but it was a little bit too late at that moment wasn't it? and btw i didn't know where it was and you didn't do anything else about it did you?
what do you mean camped the door? x) i opened the exit yea, i already told you that in the description. what exactly are you trying to say with this?

I totally agree with you. Honestly i don't know another playerbase with this kind of saltiness.

If i have a "get out" or "return with an item"- quest i'll be out as soon as the gates are open don't want to lose my points in an attempt to save somebody just to be the one left behind after and have zero profit from it.
Without the quests i may give it a try.

If there's only you and a guy on the hook , killer has noed , gate is open, he close to the hooked survivor and you got no bt? Yes I'd leave too. Why risk saving when you k.ow one of you will get downed for sure. You just give him more points for free.
Yeah you will get unhook points but you get way more for escaping.

If there were 2 on hooks and not too close to eachother then I'd try to save one when he goes to check on the other.

No, they're not.

al·tru·ism
ˈaltro͞oˌizəm/
noun
noun: altruism

the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others.

Most of them only care about points. That's the opposite of altruism. They'll never admit it, but we know why.
