I quite like the AC/40, but it never fits well in to my builds, so I tend not to use it.
It also tends to have a skill cap for anything that moves quickly.
because you have to dogfight like a man.
This is pretty much the case with every weapon, each has their upsides and downsides compared to alternatives, some may just be less obvious then others.
EDIT: After making it to day 6 I now understand what's wrong with the Longbow. Carry on!
I've found the best plane to use it on is the Schwalbe, as it gives it really good attacker capabilities while keeping it's great speed and maneuverability. Plus, being the most maneuverable plane in the game, it makes a great gun platform.
It's too bad that the upgrades to VET and ACE pilots make the Schwalbe basically useless now. Even the Mark 3 can't evade those damn Diamondbacks.
And I dunno about useless, sure the more manuverable missiles are harder to deal with (especially the Meteor, enemies with those are scary,) but if you focus on evasion then you should be able to outlast the missile, if not shake it off. Maybe it depends on your weapons somewhat as well, bringing something like Diamondbacks means you can lock, fire, and be back at evading before you have even lined up your sights with something like Vulcans or the AC40.
