Five reasons to equip an AC/40 over other weapons
  1. Amazing anti-carrier armament: When stacked up against the RAILGUN and TORPEDO, the AC/40 wins in the most important attack department – standoff. The RAILGUN’s unamusing 800m limit, and the TORPEDO’s pitiful 500m handicap means you’ll be chewed to bits by point-defense before you can start to get damage in. With the AC/40 you can pick off all four engines before you even break the 700m mark. If you miss, you’ve still got enough distance to rack another bar and power into that carrier.

  2. Superb strafe shooter: Remember all those great AA missiles? I sure don’t. A high and far fish barrel shoot with the AC/40 is a sure way to decimate ground defenses, while staying a comfortable distance away from countermeasures.

  3. Double duty in a dogfight: Ever wanted to wipe the floor with ZULUs, GRYPHONs, and MEDUEDs? Well look no further, because the AC/40 is a one-pump-dump for anything that flies, and isn’t a carrier (or massive angry boss). Heck, if you get good enough with it, you might even bag a few FLAKEs.

  4. Great kicks vs economics: Sure, the AC/40 has a higher than average payload requirement, but compared to similar bang-for-buck it’s not that taxing on your precious payload and avionics space. Give it a second look in comparison to other alternatives… you’ll be surprised.

  5. To the shootist, the spoils: The AC/40 is easily implement against stationary/slow targets - requiring no great feat of skill to lob 40mm shells at immobile units. New users shouldn’t have an issue using it for anti-structures roles. However, should you choose to train yourself in the art of sniping, you’ll quickly find many other weapons simply cannot substitute the cannon. If you’re still unsure, practice with the FLAK cannon to get the hang of things. Heck, they share the same loadout space requirements!
If that doesnt change your mind, I don't know what will.

Uh, sure.

I quite like the AC/40, but it never fits well in to my builds, so I tend not to use it.

Defiantly, it comes down to playstyle; however, the ol' 40 remains the golden gun of Sky Rogue.

It also tends to have a skill cap for anything that moves quickly.

I'll often use it on my A2A fighters due to it's low payload costs, that or blackjacks, just gotta have something for those $$$ ground targets.

Turbo Vulcan
because you have to dogfight like a man.

why not choose BEAM if u get enough techpoint.1000m range high damage without any trajectory delay, that weapon can melt enemy carrier in 10sec

It is quite expencive to carry, and you have to have beaten the boss to unlock it.

This is pretty much the case with every weapon, each has their upsides and downsides compared to alternatives, some may just be less obvious then others.

What's wrong with the Longbow? Upgrade it once and you can take down two Engines per pass, from two clicks away. No need to expose yourself to any sort of defense systems.

EDIT: After making it to day 6 I now understand what's wrong with the Longbow. Carry on!

The AC40 has always been a highly underrated weapon.
I've found the best plane to use it on is the Schwalbe, as it gives it really good attacker capabilities while keeping it's great speed and maneuverability. Plus, being the most maneuverable plane in the game, it makes a great gun platform.

It's too bad that the upgrades to VET and ACE pilots make the Schwalbe basically useless now. Even the Mark 3 can't evade those damn Diamondbacks.

Actually, the Rouge II beats the Schwalbe out for manuvering when fully upgraded, but of course that doesn't consider that the Rouge II is around five times as expencive to upgrade! (And that doesn't include the more expencive weapons you can carry on the Rouge II with the extra payload and avionics space.)

And I dunno about useless, sure the more manuverable missiles are harder to deal with (especially the Meteor, enemies with those are scary,) but if you focus on evasion then you should be able to outlast the missile, if not shake it off. Maybe it depends on your weapons somewhat as well, bringing something like Diamondbacks means you can lock, fire, and be back at evading before you have even lined up your sights with something like Vulcans or the AC40.
