Unique Volga Zander
Hi anglers,

So I started to catch every unique fish in every map and then I went to Akhtuba river... For now, I've been fishing nearly 30days and almost 2weeks in real life every day and I can not get unique Volga Zander.

I tried many soft lures, many spoons during peak hours at day and at night, every retrieving technique and yet - nothing. I get some trophies from time to time but that's it. This fish is driving me crazy...

Please share your experience if you caught this fish. At what hours do you fish? What lure do you use? Maybe you know some spots? Or even better, can you show me in picture? Any help will be appreciated.

P.S. I watch every Youtube video related to this fish and it still didn't help me. Probably because most of these videos are over 1 year old and something have changed in game.

Sorry I've never fished that river yet, without starting the game dunno if I'm a high enough level (46).. If I am will have to give it a go. If I can fish there and I have any luck, I will post. In the meantime, Best of luck on your quest, and keep us updated.

Did you ever catch that unique? If so, how?

Fishing that river now, caught just one Zander, but not the Volga type. I used live shad to catch Zander, got a Trophy one.

That is one of the toughest unis in the game to get. They only bite 4-5 am during some moon phases, and I think maybe 7-8 pm on cloudy days.

There are two spots I know of that have them. One is at the bridge. From the spawn point, go upstream until you're about 10-20 yards downstream of the bridge. Throw straight out all the way across the pool. The other is at the dock where the boat launch is. Standing on the left side of the dock, cast out at about a 45 degree angle to the left. I forget how far out the spot is, but when you start getting trophies, you'll know it's the right place.

Try the x-series 4/0 single spoon, or a 4" or 6" rubber worm (purple, glow, and acid yellow are best) on a 4/0 jighead. The 3/0 night/holo narrow spoons (red one I think) also work. You have to be working your lure just off the bottom for them to pick up. They favor straight retrieve on reel speed 2, or bouncing off the bottom on reel speed 1. They'll sometimes follow your lure almost to your rod tip before they hit, so keep fishing it all the way in.

Their bite rate is pretty low, so be prepared to make hundreds of casts to get one. They have a tendency to run directly at you once they're hooked and I lost a few to low line tension before I finally landed one.

Falcon, Many thanks for the advice. I need to catch one. I don't know whether it was one, but it was at the bridge 20 yrds down. It took a runner then lost on low tension using green/black single spoon. It was giving me a fight. Will try again..Cheers mate.

If you have a boat troll the river at night with a glowing crankbait.
