Can't equip a casting spoon

Is there something I am missing? I unequipped my bobber, hook, and bait and when I went to equip my casting spoon lure it said "can't equip item" What am I doing wrong?

In order to equip the casting spoon. You will need to buy a new spinning rod along with a spinning reel. Then when you equip your new rod, you should be able to place your reel on that rod and then your line and finally your lure: spoon, jig, etc.
