If you've already caught the Monster fish then it's gone forever. If you haven't just catch the backlash again.

I think its long overdue when you lose x-series or special items we get a popup option to buy it back for bait-coins. A lot of work goes in to getting them. Always lost to gear changing or forgetting to click one more drag setting even though the game set it on purpose so you would lose it
