Report a translation problem
It is necessary if one of your bite alarms are going off and you want to set the spod rod down to pick up the active rod. Otherwise, you have to reel all the way in and try to grab the active rod before the spod starts to automatically refill. I haven't done any spodding in ages but if they did do this it would irritate me as well. Perhaps it is just an unintended bug. Report it to the Devs and see if they respond.
How does that help if the spod rocket is out in the water? You still have to reel it in. You used to be able to swap an active rod with the spod rod without having to reel the spod rocket back in. Honestly I don't know if this has changed because I haven't played in a month or so and I haven't used spod in months. I'm just going by what's posted here.
Edit. Sent a email to support to see if this is a bug or a new "feature"

That's good news cause I have avoided fishing anywhere a spod is beneficial cause I already get annoyed by how long it takes to reel it in, reload it and then be able to do any dang thing else as you're stuck in that animation.

There's currently no way to switch the key mapping for the controller in the same way it can be done for the keyboard and mouse.
We will try to update the key controller combination for the process you mentioned; however, we cannot guarantee that these changes will be made soon.

So it's more likely never going to happen and why would I care since I don't play this anymore....
Not a bot. Actually they asked for more clarification and I gave it to them after the first email. They asked for video or pictures of the issue. That was the second reply. The automated bot is the first email you get saying they got your email.
