FL is good for largemouth and peacock bass when you are still low enough level and don't have strong enough gear for drum, snook and tarpon.
Don't go to new lakes that you just opened until you:
-Have strong enough setups (reel, rod, line) that can get you through multiple in-game days without needing to go Home.
-Have the right lures and baits that work best (or at least well) for that new lake. Hook sizes and types are very importand too.
-Have the biggest keepnet you can afford. This increases your daily $ and XP hauls which obviously increases your bank account and gets you to the next higher lake faster.
-Have the best tripod/stand you can access so that you can keep the most amount of rods in the water at all times which significantly increases your catch rate and of course $ and XP.
-Have enough money left over after all that spending on gear and such to afford another trip say maybe back to a lower lake (in case you don't do well at the new lake). Chances are that you will struggle when you first get to a new lake.
-Reserach the lake and it's fish species so that you better understand where and how to find them and of course land them and even avoid them. Yootoob is always a great source of information.
-Triple check your inventory to be sure you haven't forgotten anything. Can't tell you how many times I've forgotten a great bait or lure or even hook size/type when travelling and then have to go back to get it if it's not in the lake's store.
-Have enough, or gain enough, money to repair your gear when you leave the new lake. Lower level gear can wear down quickly if you happen to hook a fish that's much stronger than your gear which can force you to go Home to repair. Not to mention having still enough cash after repairs and any additional purchases to afford a return trip back to that new lake.
