Tackle taken out of water too early / strike timed out
Any words of advice on this?

Don't take tackle out of water until fish bites properly!

Aye I've never fished with a float in real life so was a little confused myself but it seems like you have to wait for the floaty lure thing to actually be dragged through the water before you strike.

You're right! I'm from the UK, only ever fished from the coast with a massive beachcaster. Very different fishing.
