Setting The Hook - Lure Fishing
Ok I am getting very frustrated with setting the hook while lure fishing.

The scenario is that I see a fish following my lure, the fish grabs my lure starts to swim away SLOWLY. No line tension or drag indicators go off indicating a strike on the lure.....

So i set the hook because a fish has my lure.....

Nothing happens fish continues to swim away and eventually spits out my lure....

WHAT IS GOING ON.

If im jig fishing with plastics and I know a fish has taken my plastic setting the hook should hook the fish but this is not working......... it does nothing....

1/2 oz jig head
Green tube plastic
.007 mono line
win cast 1500s reel
Spinning Rod

PLEASE HELP OR FIX THIS I LOSE SO MANY FISH!!!!!

i think your not having enough tention on your line. you need to keep reeling in when there is a fish on your line otherwise its able to fish away.

And what does the tention bar say??

nope, im with you chunk. the fish grabs your lure and its almost like your input does nothing untill the fish spits the lure out after trying to swim away with it.

Then your just doing something wrong.
If only had it a few times that the fish "spit" it out and that was because the tention was completly gone.

I feel like it's tied to hook size. I find that when I use a smaller hook size with the spinner I'll convert a lot of those hook sets. Then when I go and switch to a Jig with a #2/0 hook compared to the spinner's #1/0 hook I will fail to convert the vast bulk of those fish toying with it. I feel like those failed hooksets are fish that are too small to get hooked by your hook, and if you were using a smaller version you would catch them. I could be wrong but this is what I gathered.

that fight never takes place. the fish grabs my lure goes the other way with it. i try to set my hook and nothing happen. the animation is there but the outcome is not. did it all afternoon. depending on how far you cast it can happen 2 or 3 times.

IF this is the case that the hook is too big that is not realistic at all i have had tiny 5 in bass swallow giant hooks all the time there hooks are not too big and if the fish is swimming away with my GD lure that means its already i its mouth hook and all..................

Then tension bar is 0........ but the fish is swimming away with my lure, and im reeling the entire time....
