Can't equip a rod

Whenever I try to equip a rod, the "1" in inventory lights up red and I can't equip the rest of my fishing gear (reel, bait, line, hook) what am I doing wrong?

sounds like Inventory lag/bug, try to restart the game and see if that fix it.

Lot of bugs right now. I can't equip the hook I removed last night to replace it with a lure, sometimes rods and reels I've used an hour earlier suddenly won't match up and fit together again!
Teething problems of the game basically, It'll get better....we hope!
A tip that sometimes works - If it says "item cannot be equipped" and you KNOW it can...go to the store and then back home again. Sometimes the item/s will then show equipped.
Also, if preparing for a trip for a few days, assemble your rods,reels etc...and then quit the game and log back in. If all the rods still show green (assembled), you're ready to go.
Had a painful experience paying for a 3 day trip to Colorado only to crash and on returning had 2 of my 3 rod setups vanish to my home! Cost me the whole trip and was expensive!
