The UK anglers thread
Hi I'm an IRL angler from the UK. I've just downloaded the game and so far I think it shows great potential. I also own the Dovetails game so yes, I'm drawing comparisons.
I have to say the following IN MY OPINION..
The graphics in Fishing Planet are superior, especially the water colour in first person perspective it looks amazingly realistic. I would like to see a landing scenario implemented rather than a fish just being plucked by line from the water and appearing in front of your face. This is going to be more apparent with larger species. I would like to see line breaking strains in pounds (imperial) as well as metric sizing in the shop. This probably goes for other items too.
This bit may sting a bit and yes I appreciate the game is produced in the US so I understand the viewpoints before I start. But the use of gill wire keepers goes heavily against the British way of retaining fish, even though this is a virtual world of angling it will not sit well with many people and I am one of them. The \British 'on the whole' are fish lovers in the true essence of the way we look at fish and fishing. The American way centres much more around the sport fishing psyche and the use of such items are seen differently. Devs, please look at the way items are implemented, scaled in terms of weight and strength and also please add soem British elements soon. You have a massive target audience in the UK for your game and I'm trying to be objective and constructive (although i can feel the flames from here already..)
Please consider some Carp angling (Dovetails does this much better) not least of all because it is backed by Korda, a company at the forefront of UK Carp fishing, which in turn is the UK's most popular arm of the sport.
Thanks for listening and I hope more UK anglers will contribute and support the project.

Hey!

First of all, thanks for the feedback!

To change metric to imperial you can go to settings, profile and toggle imperial mode on.

As for stringers and keeping fish. We as fishing sport fans are looking into that too. Some reasoning for introdycing the stringer was present but we'd love to go the catch and release way.

As for carp fishing. We are going to eore the carp fishing universe but a bit later.

Hi Alex, yes I've changed to imperial. I'm refering to the line size in metric in the shop, many people don't understand that. In the UK angling is very much centered around lbs & oz. We are still a bit odd like that.
Also, I'm not meaning exclusively catch and release, just the objection to stringer wires. Keep nets are used over here all the time and perfectly acceptable (if used properly)..
Thanks for taking anything i've said on board though.

Uh, I got you wrong there, sorry.

I personally dislike he all the stringer thing and as we get the boats and kayaks I hope to get them gone)

I'm a UK match fisherman and I agree with many AOD's points. If you were to cinlude some UK focused aspects of the sport into this game, your player base would increase a lot. At the moment, the experience of sifhing in this game is quite some distance from the experience we have in the UK. As a prodominant feeder and pole fisherman, I feel there is a lot missing from the game. There is huge potential here though, and I think what you have acheived so far is great, but just lacking in some key areas.
