Fish not biting through
So im having an issue that popped up when switching to lure with hook 3/0.. At almost every cast, either when going for pike or bass, i see fish trailing my lure. I know that because of the bowel-wave they create. After a few sec they grab the lure and start pulling it left or right for about five seconds and just let go of the lure. Gone is the fish..
Is the hook just too big for those fish? When the fish is grabbing the lure i strike but no hook is set. When i losen up the line tension they swim away for a bit and let go of the lure aswell.
People ingame suggest it are the reeds but reeds dont make waves and dont pull away left or right. When i switch to smaller hooks, like 1/0, fish strike more succesfull but then again the fish are smaller...
Someboday knows how to remedy this behaviour?

I have also had similar behaviour with big lures. I have had big fish on the big lures as you might expect, but many takes that failed to connect. This is exactly what happens in real life fishing. The smaller fish bite off more than they can chew so to speak: They may hit the lure but not the hook and then they run with it for a bit. I Believe that this has been simulated in the game because your experience is exactly the same as mine, therefore what is happening is not an issue, more of a consequence of using the big lures and this is normal.

As for people saying that it's drag from weeds. I find that sometimes the tackle snagged warning does not have time to pop up with the big lures and stronger lines. The snag and release is almost instantaneous and sometimes feels like a missed strike.

Tight lines.

Okay, kudos for devs for implenting it then! its tad annoying though haha
hi, I'm not a very experienced fisher, but ingame I find that if you stop moving the bait immediately after such a nibble and let it settle, the fish often tries another bite which might be a bit longer.

I tried that too Maverick but they just run off with it, it feels likes it is hooked but isnt

Actually from what I figured out, it seems to be the fish slipping the hook. The fish didn't hit it hard enough for your strike to catch it. When that happens I continue to reel in slowly, and the fish chases the hook again, hits it harder, and bam I got the fish. It happened to me about 3-4 times, and each time I got the fish by the end.

This seems like the same issue with floats. The tension gauge is going up and down but you aren't getting a real strike. I assumed it was fish that were too small or fish that were just playing with the bait but not striking. It would be nice if there were that kind of detail being put into the game. I am also waiting for bait to be stolen without a strike, because that happens quite often in real life.

I found something new. I had a few 'trailers' close by me and what ive seen is this: fish trailing the bait, it grabs and pulls. But when its grabbing and pulling the fish actually goes the opposite way than the line and suddenly its off the bait again.. maybe it is an bug?

It is funny how you managed to find this thread to post in. It is so old that saint croix lake didnt even exsist in the game at that time. :P

the topic is still kinda relevant though... this described behaviour by OP happens a lot actually. maybe back then it was a novelty but I get this all the time with any size fish. it's usually hit and miss but manage to hook most of the times....

As someone playing the game back then, I can confirm missed fishes back then is nothing like it is now though. Now it is basically becuase they change fishi biting system, which they've done multiple times since aug 2015.

I have noticed a LARGE increase in missed strikes, it's very noticeable, and very, VERY annoying as someone said. I know very well from real experience that it happens, but please, tune it down a bit. That's just a ridiculous amount of missed fish. Those first few cast in a new area are crucial for trophy and unique fish, and if it misses then what? Does it go back to it's spot? or does it despawn and it's the end of that?
Many times when using topwater lures or bobbers with very short leaders like for Tarpon, you actually see the fish spawn at the lure so you can tell what it is and if a trophy or unique.
I can honestly say my jaw dropped to the floor after a missed strike from a Unique Tarpon.
