Why is "bite" a censored word in chat?
bite

verb

1. (of a person or animal) use the teeth to cut into something in order to eat it.
"Rosa bit into a cupcake"
synonyms: sink one's teeth into, chew, munch, crunch, chomp, tear at, snap at
"the dog bit his arm"

2. (of a tool, tire, boot, etc.) grip a surface.
"once on the wet grass, my boots failed to bite"

noun

1. an act of biting into something in order to eat it.
"Stephen ate a hot dog in three big bites"
synonyms: mouthful, piece, bit, morsel
"he ate it in two bites"

2. a sharp or pungent flavor.
"a fresh, lemony bite"
synonyms: piquancy, pungency, spiciness, strong flavor, tang, zest, sharpness, tartness; More

Is there something I'm missing? To my knowledge it has and never been a word that should ever be censored by itself.

Now, maybe your chat filter should censor complete phrases instead of silly words that a fisherman would use in normal conversations.

"bite" is french(slang?!).
It seems that this wordfilter is filtering words of any language - no matter which language was selected in gameoptions.

"bass", "hello" etc etc...yep. youre right. Dont know why someone should censor parts of a word just because it contains a "bad"-word between some other letters. But here..
ye, its E.A...a bit strange but maybe it will be better in some time. Who knows.
An option to disable wordfilter would be nice tho.

What's funny is that some bad swear words don't even get censored! lol.

Seriously, we need the option to turn the filter off if we so desire. We're all (mainly) adults and capable of our own decisions and losing a fish while trying to translate a filtered comment which never needed filtering in the first place, is getting silly!

It's not hard to let people decide if they want to see swearing or block it for themselves or their kids...is it?

Have the option to turn it off like every other game in the world.

I think the addition of a filter is good even if the current one need quite a bit of tweaking but please dont force it on us.
As said above most of us are adults, I want the ability to chose myself if I want to read everything or not.

I agree, and it's not like we can't see what people say anyway, quoting them reveals the text, for everyone (I think).

Valve just need to give us the option in Steam settings if we want to turn the filter on or off and ofcourse, let the default be ON.

While I agree about Steam too this post is about the ingame chat not the Steam forums.

To make it clear We need an option to turn off the ingame chat filter and that is what my post above is about.

Oh oke, that really needs to be added since most games do have that option already, even World of Warcraft!

Hey there, we create separate discussion for this theme http://steamcommunity.com/app/380600/discussions/0/490121928342645475/

Well, since there doesn't seem to be any actual discussing being allowed in that thread by some unknown reason. I'll post my response AGAIN, but here instead, so that theres less of a chance of it geting nuked by a rogue mod.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the actions of one person completely contradict what I feel your actions were attempting. You might want to make sure they are on the same page as you next time.

The major problem I have with your attempted solution is since when we chat ingame, we are not given any notification that anything we typed was censored, it makes it difficult to detect we were censored in any way. To us the text looks normal, only to the others does it show ***.

I assume the list of banned words are in some sort of database, hopefully just plain text, and I am willing to take a look at the word list and sorting the words into 3 catagories; offensive, harmless, and maybe.

I speak english, but I can also detect most spanish slag terms.

Feel free to e-mail me the list of words and I'll return the list to you within 24 hours of receiving it, I only ask that I be compensated for my time by something as silly as a beta testers cap.

I feel this is a much better solution than asking us to write down some words that we think are censored, and trying to determine by context what word was used in its place.

Perhaps others will step up from other countries and we can all work together to solve this problem.
