Why does my reel speed change when something is nibbling on the hook?
I don't understand. I set it on speed 4, but yet as soon as I see something nibbling on the hook and want to take up slack it doesn't reel fast anymore. Why are there two different speeds when a fish is not on the line and when one is about to be? This slow reeling in causes me to lose fish with the annoying message, bait lost or stolen, when I am clearly reeling in and setting the hook with RMB, but the stupid reel isn't reeling in on speed 4 for some unknown reason.

Please, figure out why your code dumbs down the reel speed and remove it, its annoying. If I set it on speed 4 I want it to reel in on speed 4. If theres no fish attached to the line yet, there should be no change in reel speed, as the line is not taut.

I have not seen this lately but I have been noticing my drag gets turned down when I change lures or line. Doesn't happen every time just random.

I see this all the time, just float fish, set the reel on 4, and when you see something messing with your bait, hit the left mouse button to reel in and watch how its now automagically slow, even though the reel setting is max.

I believe you, i just haven't been doing a lot of float fishing lately. I do know it's been like that for a while though. I noticed it a lot while playing in florida bobber fishing for uni peacock.

I just set my speed to 3. Giving up one level of speed isn't too bad till they figure out a work around on the reset.

reset?

I'm not talking about a reset. I'm talking about it reeling in on a speed other than speed 4, when its set on speed 4 and theres a fish nibbling on the hook. The only time this happens is when something is messing with your hook.

I thought I explained it well enough, but go ahead and follow my instructions then come back and tell me what you experience.

this was happening to me when i was trying to catch sturgeon i gave up in the end becouse fighting the tow of the water the pull of the float the slow reels speed all combined basicly ment no chance of seting a hook :( hope they fix this sooner rather than latter

Exactly. Finially someone else that both understands and is just as frustrated with a terriable mechanic.

leave it on low reel speed and use shift to reel fast. that may help till they sort it out.

The default reel in speed is 4 while a fish is engaged. If the fish gets off the program resets to the default speed if it's 4 it doesn't reconize it so defaults to speed 1. With their coding this is also happening when a fish shows interest in live bait and stops nibbling.

Like I said for a work-around is set your speed to 3 and it should stop. Figured this out carp fishing. Yes it should be fixed but I guess it's more productive to not try something that will work till it gets sorted out.

Ok. First, again I'm not talking about when a fish gets on and then off a line (fish left the area message). I am NOT talking about any reel speed reset. Please understand that before you reply again with something completely different than what I am describing. I explained it 3 times already, and still you don't seem to grasp the issue I am describing.

Steps to reproduce:

Step 1. Cast out and leave excess slack.
Step 2. Set reel speed to 4, reel in to notice speed at which it reels.
Step 3. Wait for fish to start nibbling.
Step 4. As soon as a fish starts nibbling (notice the fish isn't hooked yet, its still nibbling, AND it hasn't left yet), reel in (hold the left mouse button down) and notice how slow it reels in. EVEN WHEN ITS SET ON SPEED 4. You'll also notice your tension meter flashing like crazy when in this super silly reel mode.

Notice this doesn't have anything to do with the reel speed indicator, because its still set on speed 4. Nothing was reset. No fish was ever hooked or left the area in my example for it to cause what you are describing.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

What would be more productive is actually discussing the same problem. Please try my steps to reproduce. Then come back and lets talk.

Why is that a problem for you? When a fish is tasting your bait and you click LMB your character will reel in line slow and carfuly. You want to scare the fish away, just tap RMB.

Its a problem because if I want to reel in fast to take up excess slack before I set the hook, you can't. Even on speed 4, the game goes into super silly reel in mode for some unknown reason.

If I wanted to reel in slowly to avoid scaring the fish, I would manually adjust the reel in speed to 1.

When theres 10 feet of slack in the line, the game shouldn't report that theres tension on the line.

Make sure you don't got like 20m line hanging in the water after your cast, and wait until the fish takes the bait. RMB and move your mouse for a strong hooking; that's all. God, why do you guys complain about the game, about such minor things. The game is working well, you just need to figure out "how is it made, and how can i break it". While you complain about a lost fish, or a low line tension or whatever; I reel in Trophy Chinook with Level2 reel and rod. It's a game, have fun experimenting, it's not reallife.

How ironic, you complain about complainers. Leave the hypocrisy at home please. I complain because this issue is a direct cause of not being able to catch a fish and results in bait stolen or lost messages.

Fine keep banging your head against the wall on speed 4. Can't help those who choose not to be helped.
