Why not: Use fluorocarbon line ALL the time?
If fluorocarbon, combines the best of both worlds (braid and mono), being that it is very hard to see in the water, with nearly no stretch. And because it has a high test for the diameter, once you level up, why wouldn't that be the line of choice for both float and lure fishing?

I guess what I am saying is that I don't understand. :)

Hey Blewberry, (love the new pic) I have found in most cases it is always better to use fluoro but not all. When distance comes into play it is sometimes better to use braid. Like 8 lbs braid will cast farther than 8 pound fluro. But if distance isn't a factor, fluro is always better IMHO.

Tight Lines!

Cheers mon ami! Fluoro it is until I find a need to cast further. Many thanks!

Dont forget that braid is far more forgiving as far as abrasion is concerned as well.

each line has it's own strengths and weakness so for instance:

Mono = Highest casting distance of the 3, makes it hard for fish to see line, no strength for snags
Braid = Medium casting distance of the 3, fish can easily see the line, high strength for snags
Fluoro = Lowest casting distance of the 3, line is invincible to fish, medium strengh for snags

as you can see there is no clear "best line" because each line is best used in certain areas. for instance i would fish pretty much with 2 pound mono most of the game because for me it's the best line to use, however once you get to oregon mono starts to snag alot therefore you lose alot of lures, hooks, baits, etc... so to continue using mono i would need to buy alot of spares.

it also depends on the fish you are fishing. like for instance against aligator gar you pretty much are forced to use braid because it has teeth and can easily break your weaker mono or flouro lines. but against normal fish like bass, panfish, trout, etc... mono would be best. but if your fishing for something like say a unique rainbow trout in oregon you need as much casting distance and so you will benefit more from mono then you would from braid and fluoro for that, but braid is still good for that because of a slight decrease to range and no snags. but if your in an area such as a lake you would benefit more from flouro to hide your line compared to mono or braid for that.

so again it all depends on the fish your fishing, the area you are in, and how many line breaks you can afford to lose on snags.

Wow! Good info, many thanks. I copied all that to a note for future reference.

Yes they do, they have an extensibility rating.
Mono has highest
Braid having the lowest.

This dictates how much the line can stretch before breaking.

There is also buoyancy and Visibility rating.

And yes i do have proof of this...

Do you have code proof for that?

Would be interesting to see the effect it has on both fish and snags.

its nice to catch fish and its nice to use the diff lines and baits but heres my issue. I can catch any fish you can catch with 69 lbs line 8/0 hook and any line i choose it doesnt matter. Everyone knows this to be true its even the same on ps4...that was almost ten years ago and it still happens.
zombygunner May 29, 2024 @ 5:26am
Maybe fix your lines or fish to act accordingly? Hey devs im talking to you. We know you prolly dont care but i shouldnt be able to catch bass at lone star with 80 lb line and a 14/0 cap hook.

Actually braid is stronger than the others but has lesser flex/stretch. Therefore bite response is greater than the other lines.

Yes it is, and I use it for everything. But braid wont save you from a bitten line by a gar.
@wilmer007 You'll need to add on a metal leader.

That is true even in real life. therefore leaders are used when chasing toothies, shark rough skin does that damage as as its teeth on any line, why wire leaders are used.
