It's OK to use a lightweight lure if the heavier is sinking too fast depending on what you are fishing for.
Thanks for the tip though!
in game menu top right corner

As I tell everyone else that is new to the game, ALWAYS get the best net/stringer you can. This is where the real money makes itself known. The more fish you can keep equals more money per day of fishing. That helps with the daily costs of staying at the lake and accumualtes enough money to repair your gear when you leave.
Absolutely. Just understand that you should go with a few optional setups such as foat/bottom/lure although I honestly can't remember what you have access to at your level. Some fish are bottom feeders, some fish are top feeders. Need some options so you can catch as many as you can.
On top of all this, you should keep in mind what money you have left once you buy all the stuff you need for your next lake visit. You still need money for license, daily access and eventually repairs. Repairs and daily access should pay for itself with each day's haul. I guess what I am saying is don't have just a few bucks in your pocket and think you'll be ok. I can't tell you how many players come on here complaining about this very thing and are stuck back at Lone Star Lake grinding away to make up for their monetary losses because they were not very successful at the new lake and came home with a net loss.
What lake are you aiming for anyway?
