"Fish was too strong, please upgrade your tackle" - RANT
I lost an elusive arapaima at level 61 with a Majesty setup after waiting quite awhile to hook it. For good measure I leveled up to 62 and left the lake to get the most recently unlocked Spell Launcher and new reel. I waited another long while to hook another only to figure out it's still not enough to meet some new arbitrary threshold.

Frankly, I couldn't have come up with something more unnatural feeling if I tried. A proper fix to an exploit should go unnoticed by the legitimate player. Finding out after the fact that a fish cannot be caught for no other reason except that some artificial threshold wasn't met is completely unsatisfactory, especially for something self-described as "highly realistic" and "fishing simulator".

My goal would be to see a change, but something tells me the people writing the code are already fully aware of how cheap the "fix" was. Of course they could have, and probably wanted to do better, but it's likely out of their hands anyways.

Not true, I have broken a rod at least 5 times by using a heavy lure, but in achievements it is still 0 out of 3.

I just had one last night 8(
my first uni after going thru two locations without a single one.
I was lure casting from ashore.
was this change to stop the boat exploit? if so then should only apply to unanchored boat fishing...
Yeah, change to stop that exploit, the rod one, and the undergearing one, and to be honest with you it's a minor inconvenience compared to what it fixes. I just wish they would of give more detailed info on the fix, and threshold.
they fixed it wrong then. it should only happen/apply when you boat fishing with anchor up and not affect other styles of fishing.

Actually you can do it from shore, with lure, and many other ways. Used to be able to yank things in exactly 18 feet from shore with hookset, and this was with bottom rods as well. So the meta was to use 6lb setups for everything(Which increased uni and bite rates in general, because of the undergeared bonus.) Now with the pause and fish not tired, on top of the fish was too strong upgrade your tackle ALL of those exploits are closed. They closed it, and any other possible way, which is what everyone asked for, be careful what you ask for you may get it in a way you didn't want, but those exploits are now fixed.

So yeah now you might have to go a few more levels before you can come back and catch the biggest things, but a bigger problem was closed, and it also closed undergearing stuff too much, was it the best way to go about it, who knows, don't know their code, but they fixed what people was screaming about, also fixed an exploit of higher bite rates with lower gear too, so who knows.

They documented it in one of the earlier patch notes, my only problem with the whole situation, is they didn't give us any information on what is considered to low a tackle, and no logical metrics on what's considered too low gear.

Example: 10lb setup catch a 45 lb flathead on quanchkin get dang near spooled, that's ok, using 46lb setup on taimen, can't catch anything bigger then 112ish without getting fish to strong. and then ya got 5 to 1 stuff on nile perch. The metrics make no sense.

I was gonna say, I do wonder how the gear weights vs fish weights is considered in game, because with the rods from the congo DLC / level 80 rods between like, 80lb-100lb, you can reel in I believe up to a 451lb nile perch, so however it's being done is a little confusing on what does and does not work.

Out of mere curiosity I'd almost want to know what the limits are for low to max level gear and fish weights

The only info i Have is
Flathead Landed With 12lb setup 45 lbs which is: 1 To 3.75
Can't land a 112ish or higher Taimen with 46 lb: which is 1 to 2.43

Which makes no sense because i should of got fish was to strong with the 12lb setup under that case.
yeah its messed up they did it to stay in the now and for money but it is what it is there is nothing we can do and they wont change it because the ratings are fine despite the terrible changes. this is still the best fishing game there is or maybe has ever been and they know it so until a better game comes out we have to deal or drop

What "Money" are you referring to, If they wanted more money to monetize the game they could of came up with more creative ways to do it. Oh to make people level slower....Those people would of already bought dlc to level, so it's not targeting them. In game credits for repair.....That doesn't generate money. Your logic in saying it makes ZERO sense.
your so wrong its sad but you keep pretending that your smart enough to figured it out.
The changes we're discussing here aren't ones that were made to help generate money, aside from maybe seeing if people who were using those exploits will pick up a Congo DLC to power level instead but i very much doubt that was the intention in this case. They were fixing an exploit. It was important to fix it since it did seem to be causing an issue with balancing, but the way it was fixed is one many wish was different, though maybe this is a band-aid fix to something more complex down the road.

It always amazed me to see people with low gear have the bait cast out right beside their boat and then yank up a 350 pound Bull Shark like I used to yank up Bluegill on a cane pole when I was 5 years old. Where's the fun in that?

So instead of elaborating what your referring to, or explaining in detail you name call like a child.....?

I know right hehe :)
well you said my logic makes zero sense and i say you are not smart enough to know that unless you have worked with FP and know there sales strategy right? The difference between us is im more apt to be correct because of money. its got to be at least 90% of why they even make games to begin with if you think they do it out of human kindness then good for you thinking so positive. im not bashing the game i just wish they would be more transparent about it ad not act like there was any real issue other than us leveling faster and not grinding out more time on the game and thats about money..if a lot of us are playing the powers who hold the money are happy so odds are im right at least enough to say it
Buddy, you're out here acting like everyone has no idea what's going on and telling them that they're not smart but you're not even using the right 'you're' and 'their'. Is this game heavily monetized with tons of DLC's and ads shown on every level-up and challenge complete, absolutely. Are SOME of the changes recently aimed at possibly gaining more funds? Maybe.

But THIS specific exploit that was fixed we're talking about in THIS thread has nothing to do with money. They patched it because it was causing game imbalance. I love this game a lot, but that doesn't mean I love everything the devs have done. I do however appreciate that they communicate with the user-base to some degree, and have been working to make the current state of the game better after a rough major update. Some of it may be a compromise between what players wanted and what Devs want, but at least we're getting something.

I think you're a bit off the mark on assumptions for several things but we can leave it at that

Well said Senaru.
