Now if something like that happens, a player is just gonna see that message and wonder what even happened, not even getting the chance to play hardball with a big fish.
I know WHY they made this change, but....Idk, I wish it worked different.
The same goes for the message that is something like, "the fish is not tired enough...blah blah". Their fish fighting does not meet some standards they have, and in this case instead of fixing it, they pretty much just added a timer. If you get a fish in faster than some arbitrary time...nope you can't have it yet, and here's a message for you. The fish is "X" pounds and your gear is rated "Y" pounds...nothing breaks, no fight, nothing. You can't have it, and here's a message for you.
So now not only do we have years of stagnant game play that feels the same as it ever did, the developers are choosing to wall off their self admitted broken fish fighting with arbitrary thresholds and pop-up messages. These are the standards of the last century...
All of it is a sad excuse for what is supposed to be a realistic fishing simulator in 2023 that has had years of time with subscription-based, as well as non-stop DLC income.
Who knows, maybe it's a vicious cycle where you must use all DLC/subscription revenue to produce more DLC... to produce more DLC, on and on etc. just to barely scrape by and make a dime with no room for actual fixes to broken game design.
Remember there are broken fish (rogues) no matter what you do you will never land them. I know that for a fact it happens on uni arapaima I have had 6 or 7 that just go on a busmans tour of the river . Once I actiually played one for 2 real hours 8 in game hours and had to cut the line and that was with the strongest set up for level 70 (pre congo tackle)
Long and short of it is. They tried with good intentions to try and make 1 part of the game a little more realistic without having a clue what realistic fishing is. Broke it tried to redress the balls up and made it worse and now put a great big band aid on the game when they should of just left well alone.
I think that would be a big step back to the days when that happened all the time. I mean for me that is how it should be. I know everyone of us has been fishing IRL for smaller species only for some huge lunk to take the bait and disappear with bait leader and all or spooled.
I just don't like the premise its for realism. There's 1001 things that need that treatment so unless you do them all just to do 1 just messes with progression and cost more for the newer players. Knowing your gear will handle x3 the rated bench mark would be much better as you can fish lighter and still be able to land larger fish albeit if it takes a little longer but isn't that how it is supposed to be?
I'm being sarcastic didn't you see that I winked?
I know but your right and if like many players who have never fished b4 FP how are they ever going to learn about tackle and its limits. I reckon everything should have a min-max (true max) then any mishaps well cant say we told us so lols
Then how will you get achievements like reel or rod breaker?
my first uni after going thru two locations without a single one.
I was lure casting from ashore.
was this change to stop the boat exploit? if so then should only apply to unanchored boat fishing...
Reel breaker use heavier line/rod, and max drag the reel.
