If you want to risk breaking your gear.
You have no proof you can provide. Max out setups can result in gear breakage, I still see it happening in-game all the time. Also, no need for it. Every fish in the game can be caught using a balanced setup.
The people that don't know, are the people that need to know, as they are new players and cannot afford to replace broken gear.
Back in 2016 we used to catch those same gar on a 15.8 kg/35 lb setup (because that was the heaviest gear available). What's your point? Go try catching Nile Perch with that same setup and see what happens.
Just because (either through knowledge gained or being lucky) you have not had gear breakage doesn't mean it can't and doesn't happen. When you hook into the wrong fish that your gear cannot handle with a balanced setup your line will break, when the same happens with max drag it will be your gear.
A notch below are in all my rod reel and line setups, very few breakages and wear is slow. But then again I fix all my gear before the session, I mean fishing gear, rod stands, boats, fish keeper etc. does help to keep costs down.
All of my gear are top of the range in shop/game
3 float setups, 2 bottom and 2 lure setups can catch the largest Nile trout down to a minnow (depending on hook sizes). LOL
Moving the goal posts. I said do it with the same setup you used for the gar. The entire point is what happens when you mismatch gear with hooked fish (or accidentally hook into a fish much larger than geared for). Yes, yes, B to break line before you say it... which is again something newer players don't know about until it's too late (again, why you inform of possible issues).
mine are -
Float rods are EquatorMatch 9'2"
Bottom rods are Mokonzi 11'10"
Lure rods are Nile Chasseur 6'7"
All can use the same reel
L'impulsion 13000 (Drag set back 1 notch on reels (say 95%))
Line and settings are choices you make.
Yet people break gear in-game all the time. Odd.
What can I say... Bring a knife to a gunfight...
