Monster missions - Fish was too strong please upgrade tackle
I'm at Maku Maku trying to catch the Elusive Arapima and I'm running in to this problem. I'm sure this is the result of the recent patch, but I'm using level appropriate Majesty and Heavy Chaser setups. Perhaps that is intended to not be strong enough for a 300lb fish, but I don't know how else this mission is completable now at lvl 60. Any thoughts?

Perhaps this information will help you:
the label for the elusive arapaima: 394.64 ; 279.84
Time: late evening; weather: sunny; bait: large minnows.
According to other players, the inscription about "strong fish tackle update" began to appear only after the last update. Apparently, you need to contact the developers.
When I caught this monster, I had a rod SpellLauncher 290, reel Torbellino 9000.

This is a little out of left field but as I waited to start doing the monster fish missions til after I was level 70, it meant I didn't get to them til after the recent major update. Let me tell you, the worst one so far has been mad eye buffalo. No matter what you do, no matter how low the drag is or how strong the rod is, it will snap the line (which is the special item for this monster).

I'm not even sure if mad eye is POSSIBLE to catch after the major update. I caught it before on my PS4, some time ago, and it was hard but it didn't instantly snap the brittle line like this. Has anyone caught it since the update? Maybe I should try it again since the most recent patches, perhaps it was fixed, haven't checked it out since. (Snapping the line six times in a row was a bit rough a while back, haven't gone back to try again since haha)

Were you using really high level gear? If so the minimum drag for the reel was probably higher than the line strength of the invisible line. Try using gear that is more appropriate for the fish you are going for. I honestly don't remember if you have to use a match or bottom rod for that mission, but a decent feeder rod setup would work well.

I'll have to check it out again, I didn't think the rod strength mattered tbh, since the line itself didn't have specific stats. You're probably right, I'll have to look up how big the fish is and try again with a less powerful rod and see if it works, thanks!

It's the reel strength that matters. If the reel is too big then the lowest drag setting is probably stronger than the strength of the line being used. I seem to recall that the line strength for the Mad Eye mission is equal to 4 pounds but I don't really remember for sure.

The Mad-Eye weighs around 6 kg (13 lb), maybe a Nero 450 (level 19, Telescope or Match rods are required) matched with a Breamer 4500 (level 22) spinning reel. set the drag to a low setting (adjust as necessary) and be prepared to follow the fish along the shoreline (if possible). GL

Just wondering how's Mighty Benga doing, before the update it used to spool Tropicana on max drag settings....

The invisible line was definitely stronger than 4 pound test when I did the mission because equipping it gave "line too strong for the reel" warnings on a reel with higher max drag than that.

To be clear, the scenario I brought up in the OP did not result in a snapped line. The elusive arapima just escapes with the "fish was too strong" message. I fully expect this to be a problem for other monster missions as well, but the mad-eye situation senaru brought up seems like a separate issue.

You're probably right. It's been 4 years since I did the mission on my main account. The only Monster Fish I've done on this account is the Mighty Benga.
I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt test it enough with monsters. Even with a Heavy Chaser and a 26kg FULL MAX DRAG i was not able to catch Elusive Arapaima. I'm pretty sure they expect you to use at least a SelvaStar, but now, who knows?

Spoiler alert just remember the congo monster mission the first part the fish is supposed to escape. When the mission re-equips you it will be (should be) much easier

Not necessary, it did escape on my PlayStation account, but when I did it on Steam I used all the line I can put on the reel and I managed to catch it, but it pull my boat half of the map across.

I just did the Marron River Wailing Catfish mission and it came in (almost) no problem.

Same, I caught it first try on Steam but missed him on Windows version first time.
