Are they worth anythng? I have been looking for large fish that have value but so far the Wels has been the only one that was better. Gar, Catfish, Red Fish Snook, Lake Trout, all have really low value. Snook and Lake trout are a really bad deal because they fight three times harder than anything else their same size and tear your equipment up, so the payout is low and then you have to pay to repair your equipment, not to mention the loss of time fighting them. I don't mind a long fight as long as it is not costing me money. I have the 198 LB fishnet and I can go to Clear Lake and fill it with Rainbows and walk away with around 30k. After bait and travel cost, I come out 26 to 28k to the better.
I just got done with Quanchkin Lake and will never go back there. It cost 10k (license & Travel) in fees to go there and most of the fish are not worth enough to pay for the trip by the time I fill my fish net. The only fish that have good value are the Bass and Pickerel, but it took me a long time to find a place where I was not hooking worthless huge Bowfins, Catfish, and gar every cast. I finally found a spot where I could catch only bass and pikerel, but it cost me about 10k in minnows and took four stinking hours to fill my basket. I walked away with 30k, but after fees and bait cost, it was a wasted trip. At least I did not go in the hole, but I did not make much.
It is strictly for grinding cash and experience so it gets extremely boring, but if you are looking for cash, then that is the place to go at your level.
All you do is find the spot and cast 15 feet out with bottom rod, then do proper strike and pull them in. No flying fish or glitch rods are needed.
I just know that has been the grind spot for years so my apologies if he is correct and they patched it out.
