I have a 6lb drag reel, and a 3lb pike is breaking my reel pulling the line out 240+ft. I managed to get it in before reel completely broke so I know it was only 3lb+. Yet another time the reel will just break with nothing I can do to stop it. I also caought 4lb+ pike that reeled in with no fight at all.
To me this is a broken game mechanic.
1. If your reel breakes -> you've got the setup wrong. If you don't make the line the weakest point of the set things will happen.
2. As thigns are now some fish are VERY hard to land or even worse. Just means we/you do not have the right gear. Wait for it and leave the fish alone... lvl 18 in cali getting spooled on Striped bass... that's normal untill you get a 30/35lb set. Just wait for the gear to come out.
That being said the "fish pull strength mechanic" is a bit farbot... a 16lb fish pulling WAY harder than a 27lb trophy of the same kind... if you gety unlucky and hit a big fish WITH the strength rolled to full (like my poor 16lb which left me 22ft of line before I stopped it:P) you're busted.
Than again... with the right gear it happens very rarely... but IRL I did get spooled more than once...
OK thanks for that helps some, I guess I need ligher line for my reel then, apparently 6 pounds or less for a 6 pound drag?
I had I think 10 pound line on there.
Funny because in real life we usually use 8 to 12 pound test for pike, but these are river pike which usually don't get 40+ inches that often.
IRL ive 20 lb braid on an 8lb or so reel. Im sure my reel is damaged from it and the drag is farked. But it still works just fine for reeling in fish so i keep using it, it definantly isnt as good as it use to be. Sometimes gotta hold the line and pull in the fish or snag or w/e that line doesnt break.
i have 20lb braid on my irl pike reels but ive never had 1 that big yet :D but ive also hardly lost a lure since i started usin heavyer braid :D
I paid real money for this think seeing that its a DLC sould work better
but i did get the ultralight and that came with 3.6kg line and first thing i did without thinking to much about it was use it on the rod/reels i got in the dlc and hooked a big fish and broke my reel so just becouse they come with the lines ect you still need to make sure that the gear can handle it
lol I meant more like this. And tough for them if they knowingly try to take fish on grossly undersized gear and furthermore why leave out a feature and let those of us who are competent miss out because of the few who are dumb and need to just learn to shut up about it.
