You can't equip item currently but can place it in home storage

I am level 4 and I see people that are level 3 fishing for Catfish. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to buy. Every time I try to buy something better it goes to home storage.

It's probably because you'll need to empty some things from your bags, or you need to buy yourself a fishingrod bag so you can bring another rod with you. As for fishing for cats at lvl 3, it is doable, but I wouldn't recommend it for the simple reason that at level three you still am bound to a weaker reel than one you can purchase at level 4. Also only at level four can you buy the mono 0.18 line, which is stronger than the 0.12 line.

As for the setup, I'd suggest the following:
- Telefloat 650 rod
- InspireCast 2000 reel
- 0.18 mono line
- Hook #4 and #2
- bait = petfood -> don't go and buy the small cutbait. It's too heavy for anything a level 4 would be able to purchase through the store. Only those with dlc gear can use small cutbait at lvl 4.

you buying stuff on the road..at the lake? need go home to get stuff outa home storage. AND stuff is cheaper at home. Full shop at home as well, local shops are limited.

Thanks for the help, figured it out. I hadn't seen anything showing how to move stuff back and forth between home and your backpack. Once I did that I am all set and just caught a 13 pound trophy cat. Too bad I can't keep it yet :)
