Anyone else break 3 reels in a 2 minute window?
Hit the lake across from the two paddle boats (patch of lili pads to your left) and cast a spoon between 11 AM and 1 PM and it's a proverbial Bass-travaganza! The problem? You'd have to hook a bass the size of the Loch Ness Monster in order to break a reel.

Well my friends, I've done just that. "Good for you for landing a bass that size!" you might say, well your ambition is quite misplaced (and mildly off-putting).

I broke a total of 3 reels, 2 of which were the most expensive you can buy because I thought the issue was my other reel was cheap, and it was on a bass. Does anyone have any pointers on what to do when a bass (a bass, guys...a bass) takes all the line off your reel and proceeds to deal 2% tick damage until it breaks? I've tried everything, easing back on the speed, keeping or relaxing tension, letting the fish run with it for a while, holding the pole at different heights, prayer...

This can't be just me. Although I hope it's something more impressive for you guys than a reel-slaughtering bass.

Help.

This happens when your line is stronger than the max drag on your reel. You want to make sure that your line is the weakest link in your setup and will break first.
As far as I can see, you are lvl. 6 with the setup of a value spin 6' 3'' rod and the InspireCast 2000 reel. Your reel has a max drag of 3,5 lb. This means the heaviest line you want to run is a 3 lb. line. So if you get spooled, your line breaks first, before the reel.
I know at level 6 you have access to 6 lb. lines but you don't want to use them when you are just starting out because your gear isn't strong enough for them (assuming you don't use dlc gear).
A 3 lb. line is good enough for Missouri and New York.

Good luck.

If you mean the Mudwater River in Missouri, you may have hooked into a Bowfin, and they will certainly give you an excellent fight on light gear.
The down side is, if you hooked into an Alligator Gar, that certainly would have been a no win situation.

Thanks for the quick replies Capt and Ysen. I'll adjust my line and take it from there. What I'm hoping, since Missouri is available from lvl 1 and up, is that whatever I'm hooking is at least capable of being caught.

I hope I'm not just spinning my wheels on this freakin' fish!

It may not be capable of being caught at low levels. Like Capt_Mac said it could have been a bowfin or something else besides a bass and at lvl6 without DLC gear you will most likely end up spooled and breaking gear.
