How can I land this thing?
So I used to play this game last year quite a bit got pretty good. I haven't played in a while so I fired it up tonight. Easy enough caught a catfish. Then, I got a second catfish (I assume) that took my line out near it's end about 300 ft. Then for 40 minutes it fought, staying at 250+ ft. most of the time, occasionally I could get him to within 150+ and, at one point, I had him at 95ft. Then he sped away again out to 250+. After literally 40 minutes of this I didn't care anymore so I started getting sloppy and he got off the line because of low tension.

Then I remembered, the same exact thing happend 8 months ago when I rage quit because of it.

I liked this game because it was very much like real fishing, except real fishing is messy and I have good days and bad. With this game, I always had a good day, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't 40 mins of frustration followed by another rage quit.

So, my question to anybody is, how to get a fish in after I got it on. After I have tired him out, how long should a trophy take to land?

How can I play this game without investing 40 minuts in a fish I cannot catch.

In real life the only time I have ever had a fish on that got away it was a seal that took it.

But the last 5 fish I had in this game that were a struggle at all, I could not land.

So, for me, the fish are easy or impossible.

What am I missing?

I reiterate that i played quite a bit. I unlocked all but two of the fishing water bodies. Please don't advise me to make sure my mouse is plugged in or that I have the right drivers for my video card. The bait is irrelevant I already had him on. The hook size might be relevant, but I don't see how unless i am missing something.

I like the new features of the line rod and real showing damage percentage, but I thought it a bit lame that this one fish brought all three from %100 to %95. I had tension in the line at about 60% of max for most of the ride, and I tried to alternate between letting him run a little and then yanking him back.

Any help is appreciated.

I like bass fishing with an ultra light, 2 lb test, and a jig. For me it is the perfect amount of struggle to land the fish. May take anywhere from 1-10 minutes. Maybe longer if its a huge one

Either you're using too light of a gear setup or you're fight mechanics are incorrect (mainly you are reeling while the fish is stripping line and you should not be), or both.

Yea, are you reeling at the same time as the fish is pulling mate? Be honest, this way we can try help you out abit. Explain a little how you fight the fish once its hooked maybe. Also you wrote a ton of stuff, how about what reel, rod and line pls? Sorry if its there. If I can help at all, I will. I used to lose sturgeon and muskie by them stripping me and so I know how horribly frustrating it can be, but this was so long ago now.

Not enough relevant info given. Need to know your rod/reel/line used along with what drag settings on the reel. Also where are you fishing and what exact species (there's lots of different catfish).

I had left mouse button pushed for 40 minutes. I occasionally hit RMB and I occasionally pulled on the pole

That is what confused me this rod/reel/line setup used to land 15 lbs every time.

Nevermind, I can see what is going on here. Bait and switch. They got me into the game then slowly took away my ability to catch fish without paying money. I can't use the equipment that I used to to catch the fish because I have to pay to catch. First, they let me catch fish for free, then, after a few months, they change it so that i can't unless I get premium equipment only.

I bet they actually have code that recognized how many hours that I have played and then gives me fish beyond my reach that so that my only choice is to stop playing or give them money.

I guess it serves me right. I have over 100 hours in this game and I have not given a dime.

I upped the equipment with stuff I already had so I will try a bit more a little later. Thanks for the help, and i think 'embigger' is the best word of the day today. I am greatfulinated.

As you are out of date on gear, game mechanics, fish sizes etc. you might find this useful:

It will help you select the correct balanced setup as well for most species it indicates max sizes for various locations.

As far as fight mechanics, keep the rod tip up (RMB) pretty much the entire time and only reel (LMB) when the pressure let's off. Reeling while the fish is pulling will just strip line faster.

By your own admission, " left mouse button pushed for 40 minutes" , your technique is suspect.

STOP reeling when the fish takes line.
