Barometric Pressure
I don't fish irl and spent some time this morning researching barometric pressure and the effects on fishing.

lol I still am not clear.

Though I got this much:

Low pressure = more active fish

High pressure = less active fish

But does this matter in FP?

I thought if the weather is sunny, it's better all around?

How can I tell whether the pressure is low or high in the UI?

I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into this, because it is a game after all.

But I like to learn if it makes me a better (virtual) fisherman. Or fisher-lady, you know whatever.

Thanks

On the top left you've a barometer between the weather-icon and the water temperature. You might want to change your fishing spot after it changes and getting less fishes on your current spot.
Okay so when it's nearly filled, that's high pressure, and less would be low pressure?

The best example of the effects of a cold front (which causes a sharp drop in atmospheric pressure due to uplifting of air mass) is at Lesni Vila when the cloud banks roll in on a forecasted cloudy day. There isn't a barometer, but you can tell that the pressure is dropping because the wind picks up and clouds start to appear in the sky. At that point the fish scatter (go deep, maybe to compensate for pressure drop) and there is a brief moment when the bite picks up before it shuts down. Some fish are able to sense changes in pressure through changes in the volume of their gas-filled swim bladders - see Wikipedia article "Sensory systems in fish" for more information.

The fish habitat information and matching peak times are all you should need.

Sunny days less oxygen in the water. More in the air. High pressure and warm. Cloudy days /Rainy less oxygen in the air but more in the water Low pressure and cool. IRL sunny days it's predominantly early mornings and after 6pm when the heat of the day is at its lowest.

Cloudy rainy days you can fish nearly all through the day depending on time of year obviously winter for lakes is a killer but rivers come in to their own in winter. Unless you come from somewhere that's always hot then it's all down to local knowledge :)

Here is a good article on this subject: Nymann, E. (2021) "What is the Best Barometric Pressure for Fishing?" Weather Station Advisor. https://www.weatherstationadvisor.com/best-barometric-pressure-for-fishing/

It matters IRL but not in this game, or any fishing game I know. It's times of day more than anything else. Peak bite times are the only indicator you really need to be concerned with.

From the loading screen tips: "In unpredictable weather Smallmouth Bass go down deep and hide near underwater ridges and drop-offs to minimize the discomfort from the changes in atmospheric pressure they feel in shallower water." https://wiki.fishingplanet.com/Developers_collection

It's just sunny day vs cloudy no more, but I would suggest to monitor water temperature, it's more important

Atmospheric pressure in game is tied to sunny, cloudy and partial weather patterns in game. Sunny weather in game registers as high pressure while cloudy weather registers as low pressure. Partially cloudy for most part registers low pressure but can change to a high pressure sunny weather pattern. Check all the weather patterns for competitions and you'll see what I mean.

Competitors need to check weather templates to make sure they bring the right type of bait, bait color, bait size, leader length, groundbait (if it is a gb controllable species) and hook size to match the targeted species and the type of competition. Is largest size important? Is smallest size important?

For instance, species that are highly sensitive to atmospheric pressure like smallbass and bowfin will bite during peak periods, but you need to tailor leader length or depth of retrieval to get within the visual range of where the fish species is more likely congregating. Common bait that just dangles relies and both visual and chemical/scent receptors. The fish's visual and scent receptors need to be in range of that bait. Animated live baits and lures rely on stimulating predator species to attack the bait. Predator fish are drawn to sharp movement, flashes of color, shape and disturbance in the water. All fish hangout in schools of at least 2 of different sizes with a specific sector range which you can plot via sonar in areas which you can bring boats on.

When hunting mission monsters, you need to read the fish behavior to make the most of attracting the monster. Some monsters only come out at night. Some monsters are only fish-able during fishing peaks. Some monsters are only fish-able at specific times of the day and night regardless of peak conditions.

If you are just like my mobile FP--Mobymuse--and exp farming, you should focus more on peak periods for larger fish and fish volume to fill your keepnet/stringer quickly to make the most use of your limited time in game. I tend to fish at peaks in the evening or night time to avoid the baitcoin tax when needing to advance to the next day when my keepnet fills-up.

If you are a CARP connoisseur, there is no hope. Carp are the most finicky species in game. I could give anyone, including the top competitors in game, an over sizing mix, and they will still fail. Even I will fail my own mixes if I forget to bring enough of the right bait or not enough leaders. I tend to run out of leaders quickly. There are so many goofy modifiers governing species, weather conditions, seasonal changes, bait colors, bait shapes, respawn timers, temperature, light effect on bait color, temperature effect on taste receptors, rant, gabba, blah, blah. The trick here is to go in with more than one GB mix in case the oversized browns or silvers carp are more prone to sweet spicy, super sweet, super spicy, savory spicy, flavor palletes. Blame breaker fanbois for making carping so dang complex that even the devs have problems keeping up with the breakers. 3 years ago, carping was so much easier and simpler with max sizes at around 30kg. Then came the breakers who ruined it for everyone else with their fast spawning, oversized chaos mixes.

There are 2 types of sunny days in WW one with cold water temperature and the other with warm and yes that will make huge difference on bait and gb selection. Same goes for cloudy days, so knowing if atmospheric pressure high or low is not enough, there are more things to consider...
