Do hooks of a certain size catch a certain weight of fish?
Example: 1/0 = 4-8 lbs {2 kg - 4 kg} fish etc? Or is it just "certain fish require a certain size hook no matter the weight of that fish".

meh sometimes, small hook can catch big fish too. bigger hooks eliminates smaller catch.
Also look at wiki on what size of hooks that favor the fish

Fishing Planet has its own Wiki: https://wiki.fishingplanet.com/Main_page
Search "hooks" and voila!

I'd say this game is very much geared up to the size of hooks equals bigger fish, but don't go too mad as eventually you just won't get bites on some sizes. Try and think of the size of the bait you are using, and match your hook to that. Likewise if you're getting pestered by smaller fish or unwanted species, change up size.

Thanks again folks! Tons of great info and advice here. have written down everything I need for the Everglades and saved what you all said in a word doc :)

People use corn, peas, rubber tree seeds and amazon fruit on 10/0 hooks for carp. Not to mention 10-14/0 hooks with blood for the sharks.

My answer to that is you can put multiple grains of corn and as many peas, seeds as you like on big hooks, ditto blood paste can be mixed to any size you want to match any hook.

But you said we are matching the hook size to the bait, now we are changing the amount of
bait to fit the hook > the size of the hook based on the fish we are after...

I got bluntnose minnows on 2/0 hook few times so anything possible 😉
And in WW using 10/0 doesn't guarantee catching big carp I get young from time to time maybe has to do with ground bait I was experimenting with

Recommended hook size depends on the size of the fish's mouth, not necessarily its body length. A 2 pound roach has a smaller mouth than a 2 pound perch, so you use a smaller hook size to catch it. Also, if you are putting bait on your hook, look down at your hand and you can see how large the bait is relative to the hook and if there are multiple baits strung on, like how corn is rendered.

You're being pedantic now. Use common sense. Fishing is not an exact science. "Match hook to size of bait", obviously 5 grains of corn needs a bigger hook than 1 grain of corn.

Based on how it should be IRL certain baits in the game allow for variable hook sizes to be used, ie grains, particles, bread, paste etc depending what hook size you want to use, the game mimics using multiple/bigger baits on bigger hooks, but without making you choose the number/size.

Other baits are set (grasshopper, minnow, frog etc) and cannot be decreased/increased in size. It's these that you need to keep within reason, although I'm sure you can still catch if you don't, I don't know I've not been that obsessed to test it!
