Spinning more universal you can use them on match bottom feeder spining rods the casting reel is only for casting rod

Casting rods (only used with casting reels) generally are shorter, so less casting distance, but have a heavier lure weight, so you can throw larger/heavier lures than with a spinning setup of a similar weight.

Similarly, ultralight rods handling 1/16 or 1/32 ounce lures will be spinning type.
