LaCazadora 340, Torbellino 11000, 34.8kg line, 36kg lead, set drag to max...
SpellLauncher 350, Selva Star 6000, 31.5kg line, 32kg lead set drag to max
How much $$ do those give?
As long as your output dragforce is less or equal to the weakest part in your setup, it will not break, be it max drag or not.
Sounds risky. Every time I accidentally go to max drag the line goes twang! Also it's presuming both your main line and leader are new and not worn...
Only thing that matters is to not exceed the output dragforce above the weakest link in the setup.
*edit: If your leader or line breaks when you go to max drag, it means your reels max drag is greater than max test on your line or leader.
For instance, if reel is max drag 25kg and line or leader is 24.99kg, they will break. If they are 25kg they will not break.
So you're saying that a 370 Ib fish won't break a 70 lb setup or something? Sounds crazy regardless of reel drag etc. Try that in real life and see how you get on. Sounds bizarre and if true then it's a bug in the game. Max drag should only work on a fish near the max breaking strain of the line. I've had a 9 Ib tench on 6 Ib line for example and stopped it running into weed.
I've fished for 40 years and that's how it should be. IRL. Though you might get away with it if the fish is tired.
Try stopping a 370 Ib Arapaima with 70 Ib line when it's running and there should only be one outcome, which is why Marlin fights take so long. Nobody in their right mind would fight a Marlin on max drag.
The OP's leader broke and he was using the drag....
Im only telling you how it works in the game.
And it the game it works like that, as long as the output drag is equal or less than the weakest part in the setup, it wont break.
That said, having too weak setup overall for a big fish, will risk getting spooled. And that will also break either line/leader/rod in your setup, but that has nothing to do with the drag vs line/leader to do, but more to not enough dragforce for the fish.
I'm just debating with you why are you saying chill?? You're being too defensive about the whole thing imo.
If you want to bust your reel or snap your leader then fine, but it's not good advice to give other people who might not understand the potential trap. It's also not the way the game is intended to be played and I don't believe it's the way to go on big fish waterways, but that's just my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
Have a good day.
Yes, you do it your way. Everyone is free to fish the way they like.
In Op's case tho, if he were using a selva star 6000 (as suggested earlier in thread), inncreasing from second highest drag to max drag would mean a 3.75kg increase in dragforce, and most likely get the fish in before the leader had worn out.
*edit: wether you like it or not, its how they have made the game. Its programed this way and therefor risk free, if you do the calculations no lines or leaders will "snap".
