Grass Pickerel on Lone Star
Hello fellow anglers!

I'm trying to snag some Grass Pickerel on Lone Star as the title suggests. I've seen a couple of guides, and I've switched down to using the 9G spoon off of the bridge as reccomended. The issue for me is that all I'm pulling in are Spotted Bass.

Any tips on getting the bass to quit biting for once and to land some nice " 'Pics "?

Thanks!

A small 5 - 9 g #1 - 2/0 spoon, narrowspoon 1/0 (or a walker 1/0) from the middle of the bridge cast either side where there are gaps in the lily pads and fish activity on the surface. Try keeping the spoons near the surface with a speed 1 or 2 using a twitch retrieve. They really like to hang close to cover. Failing that a simple straight retrieve at speed 2 and dropping to 1 when a bow wave appears behind the lure will often work. (A easy twitch retrieve can be done by making a cast, holding the RMB down and then pressing the LMB for around 1 - 2 seconds, stop and then pressing the LMB again for 1- 2 seconds, repeat. Experiment with the timing until you get a consistent 3 dot twitching retrieve). You'll probably still get plenty of spotted Bass strikes though.

I'll give it a go, thanks! I finally managed to snag one with one of the smaller spoons. That lucky golden one did the trick! Also managed to snag a few, including a trophy one, over at Mudwater tonight so that was nice.

I'll be hitting Lone Star again and will try this out tomorrow. Thanks for the tips Julian!
