I'm stuck on basics - how do I get away from the bobber?
I see everyone else casting, and I have bought spoons and lures, and poles and reels, but I can't find any way to change any of them! I am able to change hooks, bobbers, and bait, but everything else is greyed out. How do I use a sinker or a lure??

To cast a bobber/float set up you need to toggle the cast/pitch on. It's F11 with a keyboard/mouse set up, not sure of the controller button. Once it's switched on you should be able to cast . With sinkers you'll need a rod capable of chucking sinkers, like a feeder rod etc. Same for lures, you'll need a spinning rod or bait casting set up for those. Get a cheap spinning rod/reel combo first, if you are at Lonestar, and grind the Bass for cash to buy it all. Hope this is of some help. Not sure what level you are so apologies if you know all this already :)

Thanks for the response! I did get another rig going, and am figuring it out i think. It's not clicking with me.

To carry more gear you will need to buy a tackle box, rod case and waistcoat from the Tools & Equipment section in the shop (do this from home, not at a waterway), then select Inventory, select the little green man icon, find and select the Home tab (next to the Backpack tab) and then select the packing boxes icon (from the icons running down the mid centre of the Inventory screen). Double click (or drag) them into place. Now you can carry more stuff. For starters save up and get yourself a Valuespin rod (highest level you can afford) and a level 8 CrucianHunter spinning reel, then either buy some level 10 - 12 mono line or spend a couple of baitcoins (1 or 2) on level 3 fluoro line. Get some different coloured narrowspoons 1/0 (taking note of the lure weight range of the rod) and you'll soon be on your way to getting a bigger keeper or stringer (at lower levels a stringer can sometimes be better than a keeper, the downside is you can't upgrade the fish you've already caught fish with a better fish).

In general, from strongest to weakest : Rod -> Reel -> Line -> Leader (if needed)
Save yourself some bother, always buy an Advanced Licence.
HTH.
