It's completely clear.
Increases bite rate on various species.
Mono is stretchy, which has its uses, Fluoro as noted if hard for fish to spot with some stretch, Braid doesnt stretch.
Another factor is buoyancy, Fluoro sinks faster than mono, Braid floats.
Ultimately, it depends on your intended fish and lure/bait choice.
Mono if you want some give for the fish to wear itself out more or reduce the shock of hitting the lure, though it makes it harder to feel the bites as well. Then you have Braid if you want full control over the fish and to help a lure run shallower. And as mentioned, Fluoro has its primary use as being practically invisible underwater. Doesnt matter for most fish, but there are a few that get spooked on seeing the line.
Another useful thing to note is titanium leaders for pike and Gar, because they will bite through any other line and run off care free with your lure/bait.
Same idea as well for the mono leader, pair it with a braid main line for minimum stretch and max sensitivity minus the last couple feet/last meter that the fish can bounce around a little on, far less total stretch as opposed to the entire 100ft+ of line stretching and bouncing.
Of course as you figured, Braid for top water lures, Fluoro being perfect for bottom running lures.
I'd recommend braid if your targeting big fish as you can get much more on your reel which is useful if they run a long way and might mean the difference between landing a fish and losing it. Mono is hard wearing.
Colour of braid doesn't seem to make much difference. I've had a lot of success with the red for example.
Best to use braid on most fish too.
Are you sure about fatigue, I am not seeing this, and Iv'e seen the question go unanswered in other threads?
Well if its not actual fatigue but an actual timer, I could not say either way, but it works out effectively that the fish fights for so long then you get a chance to reel it in. Mono would still let it bounce around without pulling more line, though some fish thrash so much they actually have a great chance to drop the hook off with the bouncing.
