Max drag setting or no?
Hi dear anglers.
It's good set the tackles for max drag settings or do it like old school with a weak line to minimize risk to break rods and reels.

Benefits and considerations (also tips) appreciated.

Thanks

Balance your tackle; for example 10kg rod, reel and line or as close as you can get. Then you should be able to set your drag to one notch less than max and get full control of the fish fight, with the colour in the orange but not quite red which would mean a break.

NEVER use max drag on the reel. That can make even the strongest equipment go pop. As mentioned one notch below is the way to go on a balanced setup.

I love to go max drag personally.

If your line and rod are equally matched and you run a reel that is just a little bit weaker than the rod and line, it works perfectly.

Some examples of my setups include:
Rod - Rivertex Zeus 8'10'' spinning rod (46 lb max line weight)
Line - 46 lb braid mainline with any leader that is stronger than the mainline
Reel - Empress 5000 spinning reel (44 lb max drag)

Rod - La Cazadora 11'1'' bottom rod (72.7 lb max line weight)
Line - 76.5 lb braid
Reel - Torbellino 11000 spinning reel (70.5 lb max drag)

Rod - Aurora 8'2'' spinning rod (10 lb max line)
Line - Any 10 lb braid or fluorocarbon
Reel - Prima 2500 (8.8 lb max drag)

Max drag isn't something I do IRL but in game it has tremendous benefits. A prime example is the last setup I listed. I previously used a Prima 3500 (10 lb max drag), but it's actually not as effective compared to the Prima 2500, as that final notch of drag tension really gives you an extra advantage in fighting the fish.

Awesome and thank you.

What about the wear and risk of break the reel?

I'm looking for a good setup for my Heavy Chaser and for my Deep Horizons

Thanks again

You can max drag setups as reels won't break in the game.

See Wicked_Viking's spreadsheet on here.

What is the point? So you save a few milli-seconds arguably in landing a fish at the risk of ruining your gear. No thanks.
I've done it IRL to hold a fish out of a snag but I knew my tackle better. Nothing fights that hard in this game to warrant doing it, imo it's a bragging rights thing.
