Atlantic Salmon
Hey I want to catch Atlantic Salmon in White Moose Lake Alberta... And I am not sure if Bottom Fishing works? Does it work? Or am I gonna have to go for Float Fishing? Because I don't really like Spinning. Thank you for your time. Kind regards.

I usually float for salmon at White Moose. Spawn sacks work well.

Bottom fishing works great..either spawn sack or shiners

Spinning and Float fishing is normally recommended, Bottom fishing should work OK, maybe try fishing around the shallow areas of the lake.

I get a pretty consistent salmon bite in the pike spot on a bottom rod. I take a boat to that back right side corner that I think other people call a dam. I actually drop the line in that channel back there where you can see a chain hanging across the water. #4/0 hooks with small minnows, shiners, or spawn sack.

I use dragonflies for salmon

Float fishing is working, I am using #4/0 with Large Minnows. I am hooking a salmon every time.

What's a good length for my Line Leader? I have no idea.

Yup, that was one of my favorite spots. On a float, you can cast up to the right edge of that chain and your bait will follow right along the rocks. Salmon will hit it in the channel, and pike will grab it once it clears the rocks. I've caught a few good whitefish around there too.

I think the standard place to start with salmon and trout it about 50 inches, but that could be outdated info. It's been a year or two since I was at Moose Lake. Damn good lake though; salmon, trout, and pike all pay good and are fun to fight.

What works better for Atlantic Salmon, Barbed or Barbless?

I don't think barbs affect bite-rate. They're required for competitions, and I've heard they provide a small XP boost (dunno if that's true though.)

Yes, you do get a small XP bonus when using barbless hooks, it's easier to lose a fish due to low line tension, but not sure about being any easier when you're trying to set the hook.
