How to Use Light Casting Tackle
So, I have a valuecast casting rod (The lowest terminal tackle requirement). Today, I bought some 1/7 oz jigheads with the thought of using them for trout. Upon equipping the 1/7 head, I got a message that "terminal tackle is too light for the rod. Cast will be short." So my question is; is there a way to use terminal tackle that's less than 1/4 oz, or is the really light stuff just in the store for show? I mean, I have found the "hole" in Colorado that holds trout, I was hoping to use something smaller than a #1 hook to get the job done. Short casting is not really what you want for that spot.

There are specific rods for throwing ultra light lures. Only a few spinning rods can do it. I don't think any casters can work well with light lures.

Elemental 6' 7" is the first one you can get I think. After that there's the FeatherLight series of rods.

featherlight rods are good...i have the set...a good 2000-2500 size reel and you're good to go

Casting rods have a much lower cast distance than spinning rods. Usually spinning rods >> casting rods and the longer the rod the farther you can cast. If you have access to the jigwinner that´s a great rod. With the casting rods the bass caster and the farcaster are the rods that cast the furthest. The farcaster has a really nice range for tackle weight.

Wait! So there are spinning rods where all my casting tackle isn't grayed out? Now I'm missing something. How does one know if this is the case before purchase? Sorry for my density. I'm new to the game.

You have four types of rods as for now:
  • Match rods: Short rods for float fishing, usable with bait and spinning reels, use F11 to cast farther.
  • Telescopic rods: Longer than match rods but you can´t cast as far, usable with bait and spinning reels, best used for shorter distances without usage of F11 for far casting.
  • Casting rods: Made for shorter distances than spinning rods (due to the construction of the reels), usable with lures and casting reels, theese are very common in the US
  • Spinning rods: Usable with lures and spinning reels, cast much further than casting rods, common in Europe

You can filter the rods in the shop if you click on them and then choose the type you would like to see in the dropdown menu. If you have any further questions feel free to ask. Also check out the ingame tutorial/help (question mark symbol in the menu). I heared they updated lots of portions of it.

You should check out the pinned discussions to, there are many beautiful guides on how to catch specific fish.

Believe me when I tell you, I have read all the guides. In fact, I've read the whole danged forum. I apologise for being old and demented. I'll get used to the game and its quirks soon. I promise.

Hey no worries, I just gave you that hint as I think that it helps. I had no clue what you did or didn´t read. I hope my explanation helps. ;)
