Lure weight and rods.
When you put a lure that's heavier than the rod's max lure weight IRL nothing much happens, but in the game it says that there is a risk of damage, so what kind of damage can I expect if I do that?

Only tried that once and the rod broke!

You might get away with it a little IRL but there's two problems that can happen: poor casting and broken rod tips.

Some rods can handle a little more than they are rated for but just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it won't happen.

The ideal setup would be rod -> reel -> line in this game. If your line is stronger than your reel (line vs max drag) your reel will break. If your reel is stronger than your rod (max drag vs line weight) than your rod will break. that goes for lures too. If you put a lure on it your setup can't handle, you're either going to cast short or end up breaking stuff.

In any event, it's much cheaper to have your line being the weakest link than having to repair or rebuy a new reel or rod.

Good luck!

im pretty sure to heavy a lure can only break the rod.

Well all this is kinda unrealistic. I mean my rod's durability is going down so so so fast only because my lure is 2 grams above the limit.

Well if you are admittedly using a heavier lure ( 2 grams above the limit ), then common sense should tell you to use a lighter lure.

But then again "common sense" isn't common, is it ?

Well is it common sense that my rod can hook a 15kg fish but a 52 gram lure is too much?

That appears to be the programmed mechanics of the game, accept or not.

seems that its just a thing with the game. cast out with something too heavy for your rod and boom rod break. makes no sense but it happens.,

Part of the 3.0 update from March 10 / 2016 makes specific reference to using a "balanced" system or else you may cause damage to your equipment.

What could happen is the weight of the lure goes against the spine of the rod on the cast due to the inertia of the lure. Having a fish on is different because that's bending with the spine of the rod rather than against it.
