Help with the strike. Setting the hook with spotted bass. ??
Hi,

I'm using a casting rod and reel and a stop and go method to catch spotted bass. I am catching them, but I have a question regarding setting the hook, or the 'strike' if you will.....

When there is suddenly tension on the line which is a fish, should I just leave it, keep reeling in, strike one side or the other etc ?

Basically what's the best way to get it on the hook once a fish has shown interest ?

Thank you for any who answer.

Many opinions for this. I'm only level 28 so please do not take me too serious. I always right click and throw rod to my back right to set the hook. This is fast, fluid and jerking motion that gets me hooked up 99% of the time.

Like I said, many opinions so get ready for many others to comment.

Set the hook, pull on the rod fast and right click.

.....as soon as the tension on the line starts or when it has gained some tension ?

If you can see the tension on the meter then it's time to strike.

When getting a bite watch your tension meter its best to play on the "pro" settings to tell when your getting bit.. then when you have achived a bite right click move the mouse to the right or the left and reel em on in!

Ok thx. Do you guys/gals often get potential bites that suddenly just stop ?

Personally that has happened to me with the spotted bass, but no other type of fish.

Always have your tackle indicator on pro settings as it makes is alot easier to detect a strike...

Anyway, I usually just click the RMB when any tension shows up, as it usually is enough to get the hook set.
