They didn't put pacu in the game?
Nonsense, I've been playing for 2 years and I'm not even to 50.
Psh, done! What am I gonna do with 2 of em anyway?
The fishing in it is pretty good, catfish seem plentifull, arapaima is our new biggest fish, and the predatory fish are fun to catch.
The lake does have some balancing issues considering its a level 58 lake. The average fish size is rather small, the cats average around 7-8kg, and the predatory fish average around 3-4kg.
Those are some pretty small fish for a level 58 lake.
Considering the size of the lake and the average fish size i dont really see how this is a lvl 58 lake. Coming from blue crab or UK it feels like you are back fishing in Quanchkin Lake again, accept in an Amazonian environment.
Considering the progress you make in fishing planet, this lake would be much better of in the mid to upper level 40's.
If the lake does stay at lvl 58, i would prefer some bigger species of fish, like some of the larger catfish that roam the amazon, the uni arapaima, things like freshwater stingray and/or young bullshark. Something to add to the "end-game" feeling of the lake.
Currently it feels odd the fish a lvl 58 lake, entering with some heavy gear and a big 500kg net, and consistently catch 3kg Payara. I've been running a 9kg spinning setup and some 19kg bottom rods, and have never felt the need to upgrade those in Maku-Maku.
The lake definetly scores on fun factor and style, but lacks a little in the "this is the big end-game lake of fishing planet" feeling.
Edit: as for money, the money in the lake is great, making 70-80k profits per day is very common. The xp side of things seems a little low even after the buff, its still significantly lower compared to blue crap or UK in that regard.
Solid post. That's prolly the best description I've read on here yet, as somebody who hasn't seen the lake yet.
As far as the size of the fish and the xp rate, I'd imagine that'll be touched up later. Maybe not though. The Amazon clearly carries a lot of its weight as a map on the fact that it's exotic. It helps that very few games have ever covered the topic of fishing in South America.
How's the bite-rate on predatory fish? Is it about normal, or a bit easier? Or harder? (I would hope not.)
The predatory fish seem to be split in two groups.
- The ones you catch non-stop, but are worth very little in terms of currency or xp.
Peacock bass
Jakunda
Biara
Both piranha types. ( i have more uni red-belly piranha, than any other uni already, after just 12 ingame days of Maku-Maku, you can consistently catch 3-5 uni piranha's per day)
These fish however dont pay the bills, nor are they that fun to catch as they are very small (1 to 1.5kg average)
- The two prized predatory fish
Silver arowana (2kg average, 5kg uni)
Payara (4kg average, 13kg uni)
These two lads pay your bills, and then some! A single uni Payara can be worth almost 10k credits, and 4k xp. They are however quite rare.
I averaged about 7-8 ingame hours per fishing day (peak times in morning and evening), and would end up with maybe 3-4 normal ones, 1-2 trophies and usually atleast 1 uni per day.
I would compare them to muskies in michigan, targeting them specifically seems in-efficient. They'll just join your net eventually while you fish your lures through all the hotspots. (and i do mean lures, i could not get these guys to bite on any live or dead bait. I can understand the dead bait, but having them ignore a perfectly healthy big minnow seemed a little odd)
They could use a little boost in spawnrate, mainly because the common predatory fish are not that fun to catch. It kinda feels like catching 10 roaches, before that 1 carp you wanted.
Hmm. Alright, good info. Thanks, man. o7

Damn. How close are you holding that to the camera? Be honest.
I think that's how I hurt my back
I haven't been there yet, but I'm confident in saying metal leaders would be a good idea. As you say, nearly everything there has sharp teeth.
