Because in real life, nobody uses weights/sinkers and leaders for anything but carp. I guess we all need to change how we fish irl. Also, if anyone has any tips on how to get your bobber rig 14ft to the lake bottom, LMK!!!

For the bobber, just choose one slightly under the float weight of your bait and the bait will pull the bobber down.

Honestly what you put on the end of the line should have nothing to do with the stick you hold onto, other than how effectively you can cast with it and how sensitive the entire setup is to fish bites. But most likely for "balancing" the dev's have seen fit to make us use specific rods for specific purposes and only allow for certain types of tackle with each "category" of rod.

I mean sport carp fishing in the strictest sense is different to all other coarse fishing in all kinds of ways. Certainly true you can catch a carp on basically any rig IRL though, I've fished carp on a match rod. There's a whole *scene* in the UK with carp fishing, and having been immersed in it I totally understand it but it's hard to represent in a game - they have tried though and it's brought a whole new aspect and renewed interest in the game for me.

TL;DR: Carp fishing is life, not just for Christmas - so we tend to buy specialist carp gear for the problem.
