Spinning or casting setup?

In which scenarios or why do you choose between one and the other?

What is your preference and what difference do you find between one and the other?

Casting rods typically work better for bigger or slower fish. They often have a higher test, but many casting reels are slower than their equivalent spinning reel. A fast fish like a musky can easily charge you faster than you can reel, allowing the fish to escape due to low tension. I don't use casting rods a lot in game, so I could be wrong.

I usually use my casting rod for catfish and gar, among a few others.

I'd stick with spinning gear since the most recent updates include gear that rivals or even exceeds the casting gear strength, because the spinning reels can be used on match rods, on feeder rods, on bottom rods and on spinning rods. Casting reels can only be used with casting rods.

They really should add bottom fishing with casting rods. look at the people who go after real big fish like sturgeon and catfish or marine species, all using casting style reels.

I agree completely. Casting reel seems the obvious choice for bottom fishing.
