How do you use bells and sinkers?
I've purchased both and am unable to use them, they are greyed out in my backpack and it won't let me use them, yes I do have a rod stand and yes I use it.

I noticed something called feeder and bottom rods, are the bells and sinkers for them only?

Yes, the sinkers are for the bottom rod setups. The bells are used on the feeder rods (and probably on the bottom rods, haven't brought one yet). Might be best to put them in home storage until you get that sort of tackle.

SO you'll also need a bag to hold 2 or more rods.

The bells and sinkers can be used on either Feeder rods, or bottom fishing rods. The sinkers are used to weigh the line down and allow gravity to pull it to the bottom.

There are also Feeders (both open and closed) that can go into the same spot on feeder rods (don't know about bottom rods) and they allow you to use groundbait to 'seed' the area around your hooks bait with scent. That 'scent' if mixed correctly should draw more fish into range of your bait and thus allow for a great chance of a bite. (I have not noticed any increase in bites with groundbait yet, though I think they are working on it)

As for feeders, the two options are open or closed. The open feeders are usually used in slow moving current like lakes, the closed version is usually used in faster moving currents like rivers and allows your groundbait to last longer in the stronger current.

Bells can be used on feeding rods (don't know about bottom rods yet) and will jingle when a fish has taken the bait (Depending on the quiver strength and sensitivity of the bell its self).
NOTE: the difference in bells is ONLY sensitivity, and not tone. They all sound the same.

You don't need to use a bell on the rod, but you do have to use a feeder or sinker. In order to know which sinker you need to use, you'll have to look at your rods specs and put your lure/bait + sinker between the two values given (lowest possible - highest possible).

It's a good idea to avoid buying things you don't need immediately else you'll fill your home and backpack storage slots with these items that require you to purchase even more stuff to use.

Bottom fishing is lucrative but it's still a bit buggy.

Anyone got tips for catching a channel catfish so I can finish the lone star exploration 2 challenge?

Buy some cheese (red worms will work too) from the local shop, put it on a float setup at max depth (a #6 hook will do), check your Map and find the deeper areas (the hole just in front of the house should be just within casting distance) and fish there. Check your weather forecast and fish the times when the fish activity is high.

there is a youtube vid from a guy named tawok. he explains how to catch channel catfish and smallmouth buffalo with the same technique. to buy "pet food", you'll need to be at home screen (not at the lake).

You can also try with Petfood/Small meat bait if you discovered them.
