Casting Reel + Casting Rod = Lures ( Spinners, Spoons, Jigs, Cranks )

Spinning Reel + Spinning Rod = Lures (As Above)

Match Rods + Spinning Reels = Bobber ( Float ), Hook, and Bait

Telescoping Rod + Spinning Reels = Bobber ( Float ), Hook, and Bait.

Thats it.

Press I or ESC and select the Inentory tab. Select a rod slot number (which has a rod in it), select Details. If the rod description has a Lure Weight : nn - nn in it, then that rod is for lures. In the shop under rods when you select a rod you will see a picture of the rod and four boxes in a square on the right hand side (just above 3D), you want a rod with both the left side boxes are green. Dont forget to balance your tackle. Rod has a line weight n - n, Reel has Max drag n, and the line itself has Test n.n. Pick a suitable rod for your level (and funds), select an appropiate spinning reel whose max drag is equal or less than (higher number) line weight of the rod, then select a fishing line equal or lower than the reels max drag. Easy. Baitcasters are only used for lure fishing in this game.

A match rod is what you want. The longest one possible will give you the longest cast. Keep in mind though, with a lightweight bait like salmon eggs, you won't be able to cast as far as if you're throwing something heavy like minnows.

A heavy bobber will also increase your casting distance, as well as using braided line. And The amount of guides on your rod also has an effect. The more guides it has, the more friction it causes = shorter cast.

Huh, I didn't know that about the guides. Good info.
