Question biggest fish?
So I've been reading guides, forums, some updates and in game the biggest fish at least caught is the Alligator Gar which according to the fish species tab max weight is 140kg / 300lb but looking at the Tarpon it says 355lb / 161kg. I've read that Tarpon was in game then taken out and is back in the game but if I remember correctly a dev said they're back in game but are rare to catch?!

I guess my question is, is Tarpon or is it the Alligar Gar the biggest fish in game?

My biggest Alligator Gar is around 44 kg, biggest Tarpon around 11 kg. The biggest Tarpon caught by someone else was around 15kg. Atm it appears to be the Gar.

As for your question it´s the alligator gar. You can look up the biggest fish caught in the weekly scoreboards. You can filter by species and waterway I think.

I don't know if I'd call the ones you can catch now "common" and avg size Tarpon is easy 100+ lbs, adult Tarpon is anywhere from 4-8ft and 60-280 lbs. Though doing a little research after posting this (already knowing Tarpon weigh around 100lbs or more) I found out they are "bottom" feeders and when they reach adulthood they go out to sea but come back to shore/inland to spawn/lay eggs. Here is to hoping the new update that is coming out "soon" we will see bigger Tarpon.

Yes, good info. I think 100 lb average is a little big though. From what I've heard, big tarpon are very hard to find. The little ones are a lot more common when fishing inland water like what's in the Everglades. The big ones can't move as well through the tangle of mangrove roots and vegetation, but the little ones love it.

All the research I looked at was from gulf coast research laboratory. They showed off around 55 tagged Tarpon they tagged for a year they weighed them and measured length, and showed off a bunch of where they went for the whole year all of them stayed near the shore, they went from Florida over to Texas, Mexico even all the way down to Puerto Rico. The smallest one weighed 50lbs the biggest was 171lbs and out of all 55 I did all 3 of the average function measuress central tendency (Average, Median and Mode) all 3 were like 111, 105 and 100.

Though isn't the White Sturgeon in the game (I know there is a Sturgeon in game just haven't gotten that far in game to 100% know what kind of fish) and if they are they should be the top fish in lbs unless Fishing Planet goes into deep sea fishing, which would be awesome.

I've often wondered this myself.

The best guess I can come up with is the fact that a large sturgeon or tarpon couldn't possibly be angled on any of the gear currently in-game. For even a medium sized specimen of either, you would need proper deep-sea kit. I mean, white sturgeon can grow over a thousand pounds.

Oh yea max white sturgeon is 1,789 or 1,890lbs yea none of the gear in game can handle that. I only thought since the biggest Alligator Gar caught in game is a little over 100lbs why can't you catch/ why is it not in game a 100lb Tarpon. Though reading a few post a lot of people are saying Fishing Planet is finally doing major update(s) by making more lakes/rivers maps and opening up bottom feeder fishing because there are a lot more fishing games coming out.

Well, technically those things have all been in the works for a while, but it would seem likely that the increased number of fishing games is putting pressure on the devs. The new update will be all European waters, to give all the hardcore carp anglers something to really sink their teeth into. Personally, I'm excited to see what else is prowling those waters. I know very little about the breeds common to European freshwater, and I look at this sort of game very much as a learning experience.

About the tarpon though, a 100 lb tarpon would be MUCH more difficult to land than a 100 lb gar or catfish. Tarpon are reputed as one of the most difficult fish to catch, largely because of how hard they fight. They're also famously difficult to keep hooked, because of how hard their mouths are, though that would be hard to represent without people getting upset about fish throwing the hook.

I don't actually know much about sturgeon except that most species are endangered for their caviar, and several species grow to truly gargantuan proportions.

On an interesting side-note(to me,) there are reports and old pictures of truly gigantic fish such as the alligator gar, though if they ever did grow that big, the ancient ones have almost surely all been killed off. Most fish have a genetic quality referred to as "indeterminate growth," meaning they will grow as large as their environment and food supply will allow.

Imagine all the monstrous fish that once swam our lakes and rivers a few hundred years ago before overfishing and habitat destruction became such an issue. Truly magnificent and doubly terrifying, I would imagine. What do you think an 800 lb had would be willing to eat? Dogs? Deer? People?

Oh yea I think Sturgeons are catch and release or only like a few a year can be caught because of the caviar also them being endanagered or close to it, but I mean hell I'd be happy with just a catch and release for that big of a monster as long as I could get a picture. Yea with Tarpon I heard it's hard to hook them, like a pro Tarpon angler could take them 30min to an hour to hook while an ametuer it would take at least 2hours or more to hook one if you're even able to do to them from what I was reading since them jumping so much and so on.
Oh yea like the megaladon shark just think of that big ass shark living today I wouldn't dare want to be near the ocean. Actually now thinking of the indeterminate growth I think that is pretty much mentioned in The Meg movie with Dwayne Johnson about the Megaladon shark.

Though I'm like you I don't know much about Europe freshwater fish I know they have some of the "same" fish as NA. Also I've heard many Youtubers, Twitch streamers and few people on like reddit mentioning the first game that does deep sea fishing will see a huge flock of people come to the game. Like for instance fishing for a Blue Marlin, I have a cousin that went deep sea fishing him and his friend both caught one and he got his mounted, I can't remember how big it was since that was over 15years ago I think.

Yeah, saltwater is Mecca for any passionate angler. I've been a few times, though I never caught anything huge. A lot of small barracuda, a couple bonito, and some snapper. The most fun I had was fishing the surf right off of the beach. We were after snapper or redfish or something, but we kept catching little blacktips all day. I fought one for 45 minutes before it broke the line. I got it up to the surface at one point, right by the boat, but then it took off again like it was nothing. Even from the boat, seeing that shark so close was terrifying. Our guide said it looked to be close to 6 feet long, prolly 80 pounds. Even the little 2 foot ones fought like hell though. Harder than any other fish I've ever caught.

Proper deep-sea fishing would be very hard to do properly though.

Yea true but it would be fun as hell though doing deep sea fishing even if it gets off the hook. I've never been I've only done freshwater fishing, stripers (striped bass) large and smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish, rainbow and brown trout I think those have been the only fish I've really caught/fish for I might be forgetting 1 or 2 but I haven't gone fishing in real life for oh boy maybe 8 years now.
