Why not just have selling the fish an option in the shop? Would make more sense. If I can buy items, I should be able to sell the fish. I didn't even know you had to pay a "travel" fee.

Well the problem in game maybe due to the fact that;
a) you are playing with people worldwide of which a great percentage don't even speak english (or good english) to understand or answer the question sometimes.
b) if you were in a starter map like Texas most people in there won't even know the answer! (I have come across midlevel players that didn't even know this!)
As for selling the fish in the shop, well you would have to play "another fishing game" to do that.
And the costs for travel and stay to any map are listed before you travel there. Just under the weather, fish and licenses.
