What's the point of spinning rods?
The general consensus seems to be that nearly everyone likes casting rods because they are better at getting fish, and have a much higher frequency. Is the only upside of float fishing that you can open up and watch netflix? Even with that it's much slower than casting. As a baseline, let's just use walleye in this example.

spinning rods cast a lot further than casting so you sacrifice distance for streangh with casting.
i personaly use spinning far more than casting but with the addition of boats casting gear has become more usefull :D

Can you catch bigger things with spinning? Im level 20 and im not sure what I should be going after. Is trout worth the trouble?

He just told you, in Oregon :-) have both money and xp and the mechanism of trout's fight is the prettiest in the game. I dream of a standalone app " Falcon planet" they just give that lake plus some carps and pikes added and we pay a bit of money for the box. but that never going to append. cos the crackers :-( i mean the games crackers, not the biscuits. Yes it is difficult to watch your Netflix while spinning.

Lot of fishs now bite better with float than spining rod, biterate for some fishs been drasticelly decreased with crankbait, and can now bie only with float, example garpic alligator louisianna, michigan before we can farm pike everyday with just cranckbait, now, it's impossible, pike and muski bite more with float, etc....

I hate casting rods. They can't cast as far. Casting reels is bad as well. They have less drag settings and much slower reel-in speed which causes much more fish lost with certain species that likes to swim towards you. I also have never experienced casting rods catching more fish than spinning rods , I don't know where that statement comes from. I use spinning rods and reels for my lure fishing as much as possible. They are better in every way for me. But I think what you actually meant with your question is casting/spinning vs floating. My response is for lure fishing with spinning or casting rods. Floating vs lures is definitely a matter of species like some said here. For some lures is by far the best and for others floating is by far the best , completely depends on species and lake.

Huh... I guess it's because both casting and spinning rods use lures, I just group them up together. I'd definitely have to check my rods and see if they're spinning ones instead. Is there an easier way I could tell the difference between them?

Well, the casting ones have a bigger reel above the rod and the spinning reel is under the rod :/

What affect does that have?

Technically, the casting ones are better suited for catching bigger fish, their reels are supposed to make it easier to reel-in heavier fish. They are slower, but apply more force.
