Mission Salmon hunt : Spoon Lure

Hi guys .
I am doing all the new missions i can right now and need some tips / help / suggestions for one of them in particular .

State : San Joaquin
Species : Chinook Salmon
Weight : 33 lb and more
Tackle : Any spoons

Back many months , we used to catch the Trophy Salmon in California by float fishing . I knew of 2 spots where to do just that .
Now that the mission is demanding to get that same Trophy but with a spoon , i'm not succeeding so far .
That's why i am asking for any tips / suggestions / help .

I'm in the same situation as you, no way to catch salmon spoon lure yet I know all the spots.

Not tried this mission yet but used to get salmon on lemon tiger medium spoon 4/0

Many of the missions are busted like this with worst lure/bait for the target. Good luck is all I can say.

@ UKxSharpshooter ... Yes, the regular Salmon are not a problem for me with any kind of tackle . It's the Trophy Salmon that they want in this mission , which is a bit harder to get .


@ marcijen ... Oh , i well catch him ! It as been done in the past . I just need to be patient and do the right thing at the right time . Think i might have found a way .

@ Marshall_maz ... I agree , that many missions are not made to be easy and have weird , hard requirements . The combo species / lures , are not what works the best and what we are used to for sure .

Did 5 days , with exclusively trying to catch this guy , with no success . I will take a break from this state for now . I'm not quitting by all means .

I caught some Salmon , but not that Trophy one i need . Highest i got was like 17 lb . 3 spots i know of where i used to fish them before . 1 spot i know 99% i will not get this beast .
The other 2 are my floating spots . Well, our floating spots , because most know about them .

The spot to the right , behind the rocks , i can't cast there no more . My aiming is red
when i try to . In the past , we used to cast our float right behind these rocks with success . How come it changed now ?

Also finding frustrating that even at peak feeding times , the fishes don't bite that much . Many many months ago , before my big break from this game , peak times were great and almost in a frenzy state . Pretty much all cast was a hook .

Now , i find the peak time to be weak and very empty . This should not be .

I have to say with full responsibility that everything you wrote here is true. I think so too.

I caught a couple small trophies near the dam back when I was looking for my uni steelhead. Looking at the dam, there's some rocks near the shore to the left. If you sit up against the dam in a boat and cast past these rocks, you should find some Chinook around there, possibly the big one you're looking for. Unfortunately, I don't know what lure I caught them on. I used all kinds trying to find that damn uni steelhead.

Try peak night time for cloudy day 2-5am. My friend got 5 trophy 2 spot from dam, i done it yesterday as well same time at night.

I was in Florida for the Red Drum last night and needed a 33 lb+ .
I got a 40 and a PB 42 lb !!
Great feeling that was .

@ Cauca6 ... Yep !! That's some spots i know also and been trying . Guess i'll have to give the night time a try .
I'm not a big fan of night fishing really .
I bought that rainbow colour spoon and will try it soon .

Well guys , i did it !!

I got 3 T Salmon from 3AM - 5AM , incliding that 35 lb one . ( i needed 33 + )
Wanted to take a picture of him, but in my excitement , forgot !! duhh .

Thx to all that replied and help and a special thx to Cauca6 , for giving me the way to do this mission .

All missions done now , except the ones where i need to level up more . I am at level 43 right now .
